Henley Mile 2018
WDSC Open Water Club Championships
Date: Sunday 15th July 2018 12:45 & 13:00
Location: Temple Island Meadows, Remenham, Henley-on-Thames
Distances: 14 years & over including Masters 1 Mile (12:45); 9-13 years 1/2 Mile (13:00)
The Henley Mile is a straight line downstream River Thames swimming event held over the Henley Royal Regatta boomed course.
Open water (OW) competition has become more established & increasingly serious over the last decade. In order to develop the next crop of good OW competitors, WDSC believes it would be good to give swimmers more opportunities to experience OW racing earlier. This event is an ideal opportunity to let our swimmers learn skills, get used to the water and potentially be more ready for OW Nationals in future years.
As part of the club’s aim to broaden the experience of all its swimmers, we have arranged for a ‘Club Wave’ at the Henley Mile swimming event on 15th July 2018 – doubling up as a summer social function for the swimming club and the club Open Water Championships.
Entry will be FREE for all Wycombe District Swimming Club swimmers!
The swimming will consist of a single wave of a 1 mile swim starting at 12:45 for swimmers aged 14 and over (including Masters) and a wave of a ½ mile swim for swimmers aged 9-13 starting at 13:00.
Wetsuits will be optional, but considering the weather leading up to the event we are expecting water temperatures close to 20 degrees. Swimmers choosing to wear wetsuits will not be considered for placing in the club championships competition, but may obviously still take part.
Information about the day can be found at the Henley Swim website. Please note and bring with you the following:
- Photographic ID for registration
- Goggles and anti-fog spray
- Swim kit (swim costume or wetsuit (if wanted) & WDSC Hat!!!)
- Flip flops + named plastic bag
- Warm kit including a warm hat
- Sun cream
- Bottled water / sports drink
- Money for food, drinks and Henley Mile memorabilia kit available at the event
Please arrive at the venue to collect your registration pack at least 90 minutes before the start of your wave.
Further updates on arrangements for the day will be posted here so please revisit before the day!
If you would like to swim please enter via the WDSC website by clicking on the 'attend/decline' tab by 12:00 11th July. We will need to forward your swimmer's name and your contact email address in order to process the entry for them. If you have queries or concerns about entering then please chat with your coach.
In addition to complete your registration please click on the link below and complete the registration information – SWIMMERS UNDER 18 WILL NEED PARENTS OR GUARDIANS TO COMPLETE IT FOR THEM.
The link will take you direct to the registration page and will already have the WDSC wave selected – there will be no charge for entering. Please have this process completed as soon as possible but not later than Wednesday 11th July as late entries may risk not being able to swim.
Be aware that parking at the venue will cost £2 and please try and be there 90 minutes before you are due to swim. On arrival report to the Information desk where you will be signed in and given your timing chip.
Any swimmers that have previously entered a public wave and wish to swim in the Wycombe Wave instead please enter again via the link and make sure you have passed you details to me at firstname.lastname@example.org so that I can pursue a refund.
