The Club encourages all members of our Swim Squads (Pre-Squad thru Platinum, including Atlantis/Fitness Squad) to fully participate in the annual Club Championships as well as our Water Polo and Masters members too. This is the prime opportunity to benchmark your current level of ability against your squad and age-group peers in the Club and, as the results are added to the Swim England Rankings database, against your age-group peers across the nation. It provides your coaching team with a reference point to track progress and may also be your first introduction to a "proper" swimming competition.
The Level 4 times achieved at these sessions can also be used as qualifying times to enter Open Meets (Levels 3 & 4) and, most importantly, the 2022 Surrey Championships (January/February 2022).
Above all, it is a chance for the Club to come together, compete in a friendly atmosphere and sample the comraderie that we have all dearly missed in recent months.
£10.00 secures your swimmer access to the Championships - for one or as many events as are suitable. Medals, and in some cases Ribbons, will be awarded on the day in accordance with the Meet Conditions and Trophies for Club Champions will be presented at a special event later in the Swimming year.
Not all swimmers are suited to all of the available events due to the length of the event or the difficulty of the stroke. We would encourage all swimmers to check with their coaches before entering 200m, 400m, 800m and 1500m events - and your Coach may withdraw an entry that they feel is unsuitable. For our younger swimmers, you should seek advice for all events from your Coach with specific care taken around the 50m Butterfly.
Get your entries in early so we can plan effectively.
As always, we rely on volunteers to officiate at our Club events and would encourage you to take part if you can. We will also need "Clerks of the Course" - otherwise known as Race Marshals - to herd our swimmers into some semblance of order in preparation for their races as well as Results Runners, Medals/Ribbons Distributors, Sign-In Marshals and Refreshment Distributors. Please consider giving your time; you will still get the opportunity to watch your swimmers compete, but will be contributing to a smoothly-run event for all.
