CWSC manufactured a wonderful team performance at the National Arena League B final in Cardiff. With their first appearance in a national team final, CWSC finished in a remarkable 9th place. CWSC qualified for the finals based on their previous results from the regional rounds earlier on in the season. Over 450 clubs participate in the competition and the top 20 teams in the country get invited to the finals.
CWSC finished with a total of 223 points and exceeded expectations by placing one place higher than their seed going into the meet. The team had five 1st place finishes that were some of the fastest swims across the country. The boys 9-11 relays dominated the meet with two outstanding wins. The winning 9-11 relays were made up of Alex Johnston, Edward Whittles, Mehmet Zeren, and Henry Grey. CWSC’s other winning relay was the female 12-13 200 free relay. Caroline Lewitt, Nora Rotman, Clara Von Opel, and Emma Bradshaw swam lights out and got their hands on the wall first to lead the field. CWSC’s two individual wins came from Edward Whittles (50fly) and Caroline Lewitt (100 back.) Both swimmers continued to shine in the finals and put on a show just like they did in the regional rounds. As much as the first place finishes were important in this meet, all swimmers did a marvelous job of fighting for every place to put points up on the board for CWSC. Massive congrats to all swimmers at the meet and all swimmers who helped to get us to the finals.
CWSC really showed some depth in the finals by using swimmers from Advanced Development, Junior Performance, Senior Performance, and Gold squads. Overall, the day was an incredible experience for swimmers, coaches, and parents. The club is excited to return next year and improve off this year's result.
