Hitchin Swimming Club Compete in The National Arena Swimming League
Hitchin Swimming Club gave an impressive performance in the first round of The National Arena Swimming League, held at Inspire, Luton, on Saturday evening. The club faced some strong opposition but that didn't phase the Girls 13 and under relay team of Ashleigh Cooper, Freya Harwood, Olivia Matfield and Jasmine Brakenbury who convincingly won both their 4 x 50 freestyle and medley relay races. Not to be outdone, the Boys 15 and under relay team of Glenn Harrison, Jude Gould, Daniel English and Oliver Owen swam very strongly to also win their medley relay, and narrowly missed out on 1st place in their freestyle relay in an exciting photo finish.
Outstanding individual performances saw Hitchin also winning first place for the Girls 13 and under 100m Butterfly (Freya Harwood), Boys 15 and under 100m Freestyle (Jude Gould) and the Girls 13 and under 100m Freestyle (Ashleigh Cooper). These wins were supported by a number of strong second and third place performances and some determined swims by the club’s younger swimmers, some of whom were racing in the league for the first time. A really good start for our Hitchin swimmers - good luck for round two in November!
