Well done to Geo Ratouly, Isobel McInnes, Freddie James, Lexie Waller , James Bunyard, Lucy Gotta and Megan Meinie who took part last weekend in the South East Regional Championships . This year the meet was held long course (50m) in order for swimmers to gain qualification times for the British Championship Commonwealth Games Trials in Edinburgh in March 2018. All gained valuable long course experience early in the season.
Saturday saw James and Geo in the 100m freestyle , both swimming close to their pb’s and finishing 7th (James) and 11th(Geo) in the Junior championship. James then had a quick turnaround for the 50m breaststroke a great pb in 32.92.
50m Backstroke and 200m backstroke for Lexie and 100m fly for Lucy both
qualifying for finals that evening.
Lucy finished in 6th place in the 100m fly posting another PB. A silver medal for Lexie in the Open 50m back and Junior Champion 50m back. Lexie then did the double in the 200m back becoming South East Open and Junior 200m Backstroke champion.
Sunday saw James and Geo swim first again in the 200m freestyle both having great swims , James got bronze in the junior championship with a time of 2.02.03 and Geo came 11th.
Lexie qualified for 100m backstroke final and Lucy qualified for the 200m fly finals , a 6th place for Lucy in the final and a bronze for Lexie in the junior championship.
The boys Junior championship 50m freestyle (splash and dash) top 11 places were split by 0.76 from 25.22 -25.98 James finished in 9th and Geo 11th !
As open 200m back champion Lexie has been selected to represent South East Region at the Flanders Speedo Cup in January . Lexie also gained qualification for Edinburgh in 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke.Thanks to Bruce for all his hard work and time and to Rebecca Gotta for all her excellent tweeting!
