Clevedon ASC Joins the City of Bristol Network

Communication to the Membership & Swimmers at City of Bristol Aquatics & Clevedon Amateur Swimming Club and the City of Bristol Aquatics Network of Swimming Clubs

We are delighted to advise you, with immediate effect, Clevedon ASC (CASC) will be expanding its network opportunities by creating a formal link with the City of Bristol Aquatics (COB) Network of Swimming Clubs. This is in addition to the existing links with Taunton Deane SC (TDSC)

This will create a wealth of opportunities for CASC swimmers, coaches’, officials and volunteers. The TDSC and COB programmes open up progression pathways for those swimmers who have the ambition and the desire to compete at the highest level. CASC swimmers will be recommended by the Head Coach –Sanchia Reed - if they meet the entry criteria and are fully committed to their current CASC training sessions. CASC recognises both TDSC and COB as Development Pathways for its swimmers.

Any CASC, swimmer training with the COB Performance Squads, will remain an active member of CASC, continuing to represent CASC at the Somerset County Championships, Arena League and other competitions & Open Meets

CASC will be working very closely with COB to provide opportunities for its swimmers and the development of the club. Further details will be made available on the CASC website in due course.

A Committee Member of Clevedon ASC –– will be joining the City of Bristol Aquatics Board

This is a great step forward for the development of the City of Bristol Aquatics Network of Swimming Clubs

Mike Pearce - Chairman of COB said "We are extremely excited by the news which will facilitate many more swimmers having access to our successful performance pathway. I am sure Clevedon ASC will be a valued asset to the COB Network of Swimming Clubs and we look forward to sharing future success with them as we build on last season's excellent and record-breaking results".

Jayne Prideaux – Chair said “Clevedon ASC is delighted to join the City of Bristol Network of Swimming Clubs and have the opportunity to link with this established and increasingly successful performance pathway. We very much look forward to being part of the collaborative network and the wider role to help develop swimming provision across the competitive spectrum”

Matt Puddy – Swimming Head Coach COB said “Our coaching network is delighted to welcome Clevedon ASC into the set-up. Collectively our network of clubs supports each other to develop strength and sustainability that will provide increased and quality opportunities for people to participate at all levels in the sport of swimming. The addition of Clevedon to our network will only enhance the overall aquatics pathway in the area which is based at Hengrove's International Swimming Pool. Also ensuring further high performance results through effective athlete development and collaborative coaching”

Sanchia Reed – Head Coach of Clevedon ASC said “City of Bristol Aquatics provides a strong and ever improving performance environment for which I’m sure our fastest and most dedicated swimmers will strive to be a part of. This offers our swimmers greater flexibility to aim for a performance pathway at either CoB or Taunton that best suits their needs. In addition to this, I know myself and the coaching team at Clevedon are excited to become part of this wider network as we work to improve the provision for all club swimmers.

About Clevedon ASC

Established in 1928 Clevedon ASC is a friendly competitive, swimming club, based primarily at Strode Leisure Centre Clevedon.  We have about 140 members ranging from those learning to swim (foundation group) to competitive squads catering for swimmers of differing ages.  We have seen success in recent years with members representing the squad at County, Regional, National, and International level. Our swimmers compete in a range of team galas, including 4 seasons, Cotswolds, Mini Series, and Arena League.

Through our swimming squads we offer a staged progressive pathway through the club, catering to the needs of the individual.  We have further developed the opportunities for swimmers in recent years, with regular land training and long course swimming sessions.

We are lucky to have had the chance to join with other galas and host successful licensed galas, including the Clevedon and Chard Open Meet held in June each year.  We recently ran our 1st solo sprint meet, which following its’ success hope to repeat next year.  Fully licensed club championships have been held for many years and we are fortunate to have a dedicated team of qualified officials and willing helpers to support these events.

The breadth and depth of Clevedon ASC is demonstrated through our recently developed Youth Volunteer Programme which runs in conjunction with the Somerset ASA Scheme.  This facilitates fund raising within the community, provides support for our swimmers in foundation and improver groups and works to drive a positive social environment for all our members.

We have dedicated coaching team led by our Head Coach Sanchia Reed.  She is ably supported by Pat Leaman who leads our Junior Competition Squad and is Youth Volunteer Coordinator.  In total we have seven training groups and are extremely proud of our many volunteer coaches who give their time for the benefit of our swimmers.  Several have recently risen to the challenge of becoming L2 qualified coaches and we are fortunate to have considerable dedication and skills in our coaching team. Our club is managed by a group of dedicated and well organised volunteer committee members and have achieved Swim Mark accreditation.

Clevedon ASC are delighted to join the City of Bristol Aquatics Network of Swimming Clubs. We have members from across North Somerset and Somerset. COB and the facility at Hengrove Park Leisure Centre provides an excellent choice for swimmers wishing to commit to a performance pathway environment in addition to our link with Taunton Deane. The COB performance programme is producing tangible results at regional, national and now international level. In November 2017 this success was recognised at the Swim England National Awards, when COB was runner up in the club of the year category.  This is an exciting time to be linking with a progressive, forward thinking club. Clevedon ASC will continue to be a strong community club dedicated to developing swimmers of all abilities. An additional network will enhance the opportunities to our members. We look forward to the success a mutually beneficial collaboration will bring.
