Hitchin Swimming Club hosted its annual Open Meet on Sunday 26th November at The Venue Borehamwood.  The event was very well attended with swimmers from a wide range of clubs including Chelsea & Westminster, Harpenden, Stevenage, Cheshunt, Hoddesdon, Team Luton and Letchworth.

A raffle and cake sale were held throughout the event to raise money for our nominated charities; Up on Downs and Angels Support Group.  We are most grateful for all of the fantastic raffle prizes kindly donated by local businesses and families within the club.  Thanks also to all of the bakers who provided cakes for our popular cake stall.

A total of 77 Hitchin swimmers competed; 24 boys and 53 girls.  Between them they achieved 117 top three finishes collecting 45 gold, 33 silver and 39 bronze medals.

Hitchin swimmers also recorded an impressive 146 PB’s during the course of the day.  A number of Hitchin swimmers including Jamie Brackston, Ben Cocks, Jess Drury, Joseph English, Matteo Lo Biundo, Hannah Lovelock, Isobel Matfield, Olivia Matfield and Rowan Miller achieved personal best times in all of their events.  Impressive performances also came from Emily Cairncross (200fly), Sophie Clark (200IM) and Jess Drury (200 breaststroke).  None of the girls had done these events previously but they all achieved fantastic times with Emily and Jess both securing County qualifying times.

The award for the top visiting club went to Chelsea & Westminster who brought a strong team of swimmers aged 9 to 14.

The day would not have been possible without all of the officials and volunteers and we are most grateful for their support.

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding our 2018 Open Meet at The Venue, Borehamwood on Sunday 18th November 2018.
