Bromley’s team had a fantastic Championships this year with our women’s team finishing 2nd in Kent and our men 3rd in Kent giving us an overall position of 3rd-but closer to 2nd than last year with 1404 points. Our athletes brought home 50 Gold, 44 Silver and 33 Bronze medals.
In the Open Age Group Bromley won 7 Gold medals, 6 Silver and 6 Bronze. 17 year-old Matt Rogers took Gold in all three Breaststroke events, as well as finishing 3rd in 200m Freestyle and 200m IM. 16 year-old Imogen Meers was crowned Open Champion in three events including the Women’s 100m Backstroke, 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly. She also finished top three Open in 200m Backstroke and 100m Butterfly. Our final Open Champion was Joe Dobb who won the 200m Freestyle going sub-2 minutes for the first time. Joe also took Silver in the 100m Freestyle. 15 year-old Alexia Jackson took Silver in the Open 50m Butterfly while our youngest Open-medalist was 14 year-old Tamryn Van Selm who took Silver in both the 400m and 800m Freestyle. Other Open finalists included: Ellen Scholes, Tanglin Ireland, Felix Haslam, Hannah O’Flynn, Abby Ashworth, Emma Van Selm, Pravin Mahendrakumar, Tom Woolley, Alicia Corver, Eliza Powell and Evie Davis. This is more swimmers than we’ve ever had achieving at an Open level- great to see our young swimmers starting to make some waves.
In the Junior age-group (16/u) Bromley had three swimmers securing the honorary title of Junior Champion including Imogen Meers (200m Backstroke), Alicia Corver (200m Butterfly) and Pravin Mahendrakumar (200m Breaststroke. Tamryn Van Selm finished as second Junior in 200m IM, 200m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle as well as finishing third in the 400m IM and 200m Backstroke. Also ranked top 8 in the Junior age-group were Hannah O’Flynn, Jack Billings, Tom Woolley, Annabel Smith and Eliza Powell.
In the Age Group events Bromley had Kent Champions in every event including 11 Freestyle champions, 11 Backstroke champions, 9 Butterfly champions and 8 Breaststroke champions, as well as 4 swimmers winning the distance events and 5 swimmers winning the 200/400 IM. Congratulations to: Alex Din, Matt Rogers, Joe Dobb, Imogen Meers, Alexia Jackson, Pravin Mahendrakumar, Emma Van Selm, Tom Woolley, Tamryn Van Selm, Alicia Corver, Alex Corver, Sam Lander and Beatrice Pickering for the huge amount of Gold medals you managed to accumulate over the four weekends!
Congratulations also to those who reached the podium in the age-group events: Lenka Carter, Jack Billings, Jamie Cleaver, Annabel Smith, Hannah O’Flynn, Felix Haslam, Luke Cleaver, Ben Bello-Mendoza, Tanglin Ireland, Ellen Scholes, Abby Ashworth, Eliza Powell, Evie Davis, Ed Sellar, Lilous Saeijs, Emily Norris, Sebastian Pickering and Maddie Follis. It was fantastic to see so many of our swimmers on the podium, and in many events at least two of the top-three spots were taken up by Bromley swimmers.
Kent is one of the toughest counties in the country so making a final is a very impressive achievement. Not quite getting a medal but still earning our team points were: Rae Straupenieks, Oliver Haycocks, Lily Meers, Lucas Bryl, Evie Berenger-Fleming, Harry Chaudhury, Ethan Spoerer-Scott, Emily Gunn, Luca Short, Katie Billings, Richard Knight and Siobhan Chou.
Special mention to our 14 year old girls who all made it into the top 8 in the 400m IM!
Also special congratulations to those swimmers who were competing at County level for the first time: Lottie Cain, Roberto Dell’Accio, Lucas Bryl, Oliver Haycocks, Harry Chaudhury, Ethan Spoerer-Scott, Evie Berenger-Fleming and Rosie Mott.
We had so many PBs and fantastic individual performances- it really was a great championships from you all. Thank you to all our supporters and to those of you who officiated and hosted- we couldn’t do this without you!
