3 Caradon Swimmers success at British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships 2018

Three Caradon swimmers braved the weather to compete at the British Schools Modern Biathlon Championships being held at Crystal Palace over the weekend of 17/18th March 2018 representing the South West Area. The event comprises a separate run and swim and is the culmination of a series of regional preliminary competitions organised throughout the country by Pentathlon GB from September to December 2017. For our trio this consisted of a 200m swim long course (50m pool) and a 1 mile run, scoring is based on run and swim times being converted to points. Each class has to achieve a target time to gain 1000 points. Times faster or slower than the target time result in an increase or decrease in points.

Charlotte Hicks competed on Saturday in the under 16 girls category, with a swim time and personal best of 2.26.68 and a run time of 5.42.03. These times converted to points of 2199 resulting in Charlotte coming 2nd place nationally and a wonderful silver medal.

On Sunday, the poor weather conditions resulted in the run element being cancelled and entry qualification times were used. Edward Fox represented Devonport High School in the under 15 category and had a swim time and personal best of 2.36.63 and with a run time of 6.36 giving him 1704 points.

Samuel Mills-Shute representing Plymouth College in the under 17 boys category achieved a swim time and personal best of 2.13.43 and a run time of 5.08. Samuel’s times converted to 2301 points and a very well deserved 2nd place nationally, a silver medal on the podium.

Huge congratulations to Charlotte, Edward and Sam from all us at Caradon.
