Details of Basingstoke meet - Sunday, April 15

Hi everyone

For those taking part in the Basingstoke meet, this Sunday and next Sunday, please see the notes below.

This is a non-spectator meet so it is important that you make your swimmer aware of the 'rules' and also ensure they have enough food/drink/clothing to last them throughout the day. The last time we were there swimmers did complain it was quite cold so please make sure they take some warm clothes for in between swims.

Also, just to highlight that (subject to the technology working) some races could be streamed live on the swimmeets.org website and by signing up to the meet you gave permission for your swimmer to be included in these videos.

Some of the coaches have been putting together some really helpful checklists, which should make galas that little bit easier, particularly for our younger swimmers who may be attending their first gala this weekend. Below is a recommended kit list and you can also find a great nutritional article by clicking here.

Apologies to those who receive this but whose swimmers are not taking part this weekend. We hope the general information may be of use in the future though.

Good luck everyone!

As you know the Basingstoke meet is running without spectators which means that the only adults in the pool hall will be coaches and team managers.  Please be aware that it is a large centre with a number of activities and the changing area is not exclusive to the competition pool.  We therefore need to take steps to ensure the safety and supervision of the children while they are at the meet by establishing some ‘ground rules’.  Please will you discuss these with your child and ensure that they understand and that they and you will abide by them.

·          The coach, who will be Tony, is responsible for the swimmers while they are poolside.

·          If a swimmer needs to leave poolside for any reason they need to inform the coach and preferably go with at least one other swimmer.

·          Please ensure your child has your mobile number with them so that you can be contacted if necessary.

·          If your child is of primary school age you or another designated adult should remain at the centre in case needed at short notice.  The coach will not be able to leave poolside to accompany them anywhere except in case of real emergency.

·          Older swimmers and parents can decide whether or not you will remain at the centre but please make sure that they can contact you and that they are aware that they must let the coach know their whereabouts at all times.  They also need to be aware that the changing rooms and the centre as a whole are open to the public and they should not leave bags unattended outside the pool area.

Live results and, subject to technology constraints, live results and live video streaming will be available via the swimmeets.org website.

By entering this meet clubs (and individual swimmers) accept and agree to live results and live video streaming.

Basingstoke has now released the programme for Sunday and it can be found on www.swimmeets.org No printed versions will be available on the day so print out before you go if you want one.

The club has also sent the following details for parents who will be attending the meet: Parents will not be permitted past the cafe area and there is no wifi in this area - the nearest is Costa across the carpark - where we are told coffee is better too!  Subject to technology gremlins we will be posting live results on swimmeets.org as well as the more low key - results sheets on the pool and cafe walls.  Basingstoke Town centre is a five minutes drive away from the pool.
