Personal Bests and Club Records tumble at Beckenham Easter Meet

Personal Bests and Club Records tumble at Beckenham Easter Meet

An abundance of personal best times and 14 club records were smashed by JP swimmers at the recent Beckenham Easter Meet. The maturity and execution of race processes was well recognised by the Director of Swimming, ‘It’s good to see the swimmers racing smart and thinking about how they are approaching their races. Taking the emphasis away from time, and focussing on skills, seems to be having a positive effect with the age group swimmers. At this stage positive times are a bonus’. The group raced alongside our National Performance swimmers which also displayed process lead performance. In particular, Alex Rowson who had a fantastic 200 freestyle, swimming to a personal best by over 1 second.
Momentum was high for the swimmers as the meet kick started the Easter Holidays, which for most of JP was the start of a training phase which would be completed on the Cyprus camp. Coach nominated stand out swims, and this was hard to choose (!) go to:

Lavinia Ricca - 200 breastroke/200 freestlye. Both swims displayed great maturity in terms of delivering her race plan and remaining controlled at the start of the race even if competitors went out quick. Lavinia’s 200 breaststroke was one of the club records.

Edward Whittles - 400 IM/200 freestyle. Tweaking a few processes from Wycombe lead to Edward taking a further 4 seconds off his 400 IM in 2 weeks. Similarly, the strength of his middle 100 in the 200 freestyle shaped up to equal a dominant race.

Agnes Van Lanschot - 200 breaststroke. It was great to see Agnes' confidence grow with this event and Agnes was able to deliver 3/4 race quality turns. Technical points that are being worked on in training were clearly visible this weekend across all of Agnes’ breaststroke events.

The weekend was great to be a part of for both groups. Well done to all swimmers.
