WSSC Home Series
As a Club we are continually striving to find ways to help our swimmers achieve their best and part of this includes the opportunity for as many of our members as possible to attain County Qualifying times. These times must be achieved in the qualifying period from 1st March until the closing date in early January and must be obtained at a Licenced Meet. For more information on this please see the ‘Competition Info’ under the ‘Events’ tab on the website.
With this in mind, it is our intention to launch the WSSC Home Series, as a series of Level 4 Licenced Galas for WSSC swimmers only from Skills 1 through to Masters. This will hopefully allow all swimmers the chance to post CQT’s or simply improve their PB’s across all strokes/distances up to 200m events in a familiar environment and without the need to attend costly Open Meets at other Club locations and in some cases, just to get a start on the Competition ladder when they have no current times in an event.
We have already planned the first of these for Saturday 21st July and we are kicking things off with a Sprint Gala offering all four 50m events + 100 IM at a cost of £5 for the evening. All details are on the website under the ‘Events’ tab and on-line entry is now open. We will hopefully be rounding off the evening with refreshments of some kind and hope that all swimmers will stay to enjoy this.
However, the future of the rest of the Series will be determined by you; our parents/supporters – as with all things, Events like this require organisation and our current Open Meet team do not have the time to fit any more into their already busy schedule, we are therefore looking for volunteers to come forward to assist with the running of these mini Galas.
As with any Licenced Gala, we must adhere to the regulations regarding number of Licenced Officials, without the required amount of Time Keepers/Judges who will obviously need to be found from within our own ranks, results will not be accepted by the British Swimming Rankings database and therefore WILL NOT be eligible as times from a Licenced Meet. Therefore, if these Galas are to proceed across the Autumn Term as hoped, we simply must have more volunteers step up and get involved in training to become an Official. If you feel this is something you could do, or for more information about this very important task, please see the ‘Officials’ tab on the website or contact our Officials Co-Ordinator Fiona Brittain firstname.lastname@example.org who will be able to answer any questions you might have.
It is absolutely vital that we have succession coming through the squads as our older swimmers move on and so do their parents, we lose invaluable experience which needs to be replaced and passed on to our Junior squad members. You don’t need to know anything about the sport of swimming to get involved, just a willingness to help your swimmer/s get the best out of their Sport and their Club.
In addition to Officials we need people to assist with Marshalling, Computer Desk, Refreshments etc - PLEASE don’t leave it to somebody else or there will come a point where these enjoyable Events will have to stop taking place as we have seen happening within other Clubs. Anyone willing to become involved, please email email@example.com
