Evie's journey

It has been quite a year, but for Evelyn Davis it has been a year where she has proven herself to be one tough cookie.

Despite the restrictions to her training caused by the Coronavirus lockdowns, she managed to overcome all obstacles and ultimately triumph with some standout performances at the British Swimming Olympic Selection trials, including setting a new age-group British Record of 25.27 in the 50m Freestyle and taking 4th place in the 100m Freestyle in a 54.69. These swims saw Evie selected to represent team GB at a senior international level for the first time as she flew out to Budapest for the European Championships. Evelyn was part of the Ladies 4 x 100m Freestyle relay team and the Mixed 4 x 100m Freestyle team both of which went on to take Gold in the final, as well as competing in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle.

Her swims this season have also seen her selected to represent team GB again, this time in the European Junior Championships which begin tomorrow in Rome.

We are so proud of Evie for her achievements, attitude and commitment. She is a real inspiration to so many of our athletes and a great role model for our younger swimmers of what can be achieved when you have the will, determination and discipline to get your job done, even when things aren't going to plan.

Evie will be featuring on BBC London TV today at 1.30pm and 6.30pm (news dependent), as well as BBC Newsround, so if you'd like to hear more about her journey please do tune in!
