Croydon Amphibians partnership with Whitgift School

New community partnership announced between Whitgift School and Croydon Amphibians Swimming Club

Whitgift School and Croydon Amphibians Swimming Club have agreed a new partnership which will see Croydon Amphibians becoming the primary community aquatics sports partner with Whitgift School. This follows the decision by the School to end their contract with Nuffield Health, and to reorientate itshigh-quality Sports Centre towards student use and community partnerships.

This new partnership will involve an agreement starting in September 2021, which will see Croydon Amphibians take sole control of the 8-lane competitive swimming pool at Whitgift School most evenings and weekends (outside of school hours).

Croydon Amphibians will split the pool time between its different aquatic sections – the Competitive Age-Group squads, the Swim School, the Water Polo squads, the Swim Fitness section and the Masters Swimming section. By bringing these different sections into Whitgift, the club will be able to demonstrate the swimming pathway from learning to swim through to competing at a national level.

As part of this new arrangement, Croydon Amphibians will work closely with the newly formed Whitgift School Swimming Club to host open swimming galas, with the intention of attracting some of the best swimmers in the southeast of England to compete in Croydon.

Whitgift’s Director of Partnerships and Community, Andy Marlow said:

“We are pleased to be able to work with Croydon Amphibians to ensure that our facility is accessible to students and the local community outside of school hours. We hope this is a long and successful partnership.”

Chair of Croydon Amphibians, Lee Findell said:

“I am delighted we have been able to agree this new partnership arrangement with Whitgift School. As the leading swimming club in Croydon, we have had a long-standing relationship with the school, and the strengthening of this partnership will mean that we will be able to offer more opportunities to the swimming and water polo community in Croydon.

Whitgift’s Pool is one of the finest short course pools in the southeast. This new partnership will mean we can continue to encourage swimming in the local community and strengthen the pathway from first learning to swim through to being a technically competent swimmer able to choose whether to swim or play water polo competitively, or just swim for fun and fitness.”
