Cheddar Kingfishers Swimming Club made a strong start to their Cotswold 2022 Series Gala campaign at Kings College School in Taunton on Saturday, 26th February. It was an exciting evening of swimming, with 27 swimmers competing, some of the younger swimmers in their first ever competition and team gala. Everyone put in their best performance, with many winning their races, Jemima Seagrove coming first in the 15/u Individual Medley, newcomer to Cotswolds Issy Brock finishing first in the 13/u 50m Breast, Josh Easton winning the tough 15/u 50m Fly and Zara Bird with a storming win for the 13/u 50m Back race. The team races also saw some great performances with the u/15’s boys team with Bertie Thomas, Sam Hutchinson, J Easton and Dylan Wines winning the Medley with ease, and the 11/u girls also winning the freestyle team relay with Sophie Constantin, Poppy Stevenson, Faye Bird and Tilly Sedgwick. The evening was rounded off with the ever-noisy cannon race, swam by Constantin, Josh Hutchinson, Zoe Alvey, Wines, Lucy Todd, Thomas, Naomi Pollard and Harry Read. Cheddar Kingfishers finished 3rd overall.
Two weeks later they then continued their bid for success on Saturday, 12th March at Henleaze Swimming Pool, Bristol where again they provided spectators with a great performance from the team. Libby Halford swam a strong 1st place in the 11/u 25m Freestyle and Zoe Alvey doing the same in the 13/u 50m Freestyle winning with ease. Making debut appearances for Cheddar Kingfishers at the Cotswold League was Jude Reed O’Grady, Amelia Rowe, Vinnie Seagrove and Leo Banks, all doing a fantastic job and swimming brilliantly under pressure. Again, Cheddar Kingfishers finished 3rd overall behind Wells Swimming Club and Clevedon.
Cheddar Kingfishers are looking forward to hosting the next round of the Cotswold League on Saturday, 26th March at their home pool at Kings Leisure Centre in Cheddar.
