Two swimmers left the town of Berkhamsted last summer to pursue their studies in the South West. 17 year olds Abbie Hurst went to Millfield and Amy Pemberton went to Plymouth College. They have also kept up their swimming commitments and both benefitted to qualify for the British Championships held in the Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh. Travelling North they both performed with distinction. In this meet the events were split into 2 halves with the fastest seeded swimmers competing in the morning, the slightly slower swimmers in the afternoon, with finals held in the evening session
After an excellent meet recently in Luxembourg, Amy Pemberton lowered her 50m free long course time again to 27.63 and whilst slightly disappointed with her 100m free time of 1:01.50 she should be delighted that she improved her seeding in her heat, in that race by 3 places.
Abi Hurst began her meet by smashing her 100m breast best swimming in the afternoon session on the Friday and her 1:11.52 was the fastest of that session, beating many from the morning heats and qualified her for the ‘B’ final, her first ever Senior final where she eventually finished 8th.
Saturday saw her improve over 4 seconds on her 200m Breast time (2:40.58) and then, on Sunday she lowered her 50m breast in the heats to make the Junior final where, again, she eventually finished 8th.
The club is delighted to have been a part of the formative swimming years for both these athletes and wishes them all the best for their future in the sport as we follow their upward progress.
