Ciara McKenna travelled to Southampton for the Down Syndrome European Open Swimming Championships, competing against swimmers from 9 different countries. In the final analysis Ciara came away with a full set of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals along with 3 pbs.
Representing GB, Ciara posted 30.40 for her 25m Backstroke, 1:02.64 (pb) for the 50m back, 36.77 for the 25m Fly, 24.70 in the 25m free, 57.75 (pb) for the 50m free and 2:09.00 (pb) for the 100m free.
Swimming the 100m was a step into the unknown for Ciara as she builds her confidence to swim longer races than she has been used to doing. She exhibited so much more confidence by slashing a huge 15 seconds from her previous best time.
Her medals came in the 25m Free (bronze); 50m Free (silver) and 100m free (Gold) to cap an exciting weekend for the youngster.
