As some of you maybe aware, within the Club we now have a GB swimmer, namely Ciara McKenna who represents the Club and country at a number of Downs Syndrome events, as you can imagine both parents and the Club are proud of her achievements
On 19th & 20th whist the Club have a group of swimmers at the Hemel Development Meet, Ciara was part of the GB team that went to Kosovo to compete in the 1st Open International Downs Syndrome Swimming Championships in Kosovo where 11 countries were represented. Ciara McKenna travelled with the GB Down Syndrome squad for the Kosovo International meet. She had 3 super swims, setting personal best times in all 3 races. She completed her 50m Breast in 1:30.63 for 7th place, her 50m fly in 1:19.97 for 8th and also clipped her 100m free time down by nearly 9 seconds and going under the 2 minute barrier for the first time in 1:59.46to gain a second 7th place. Her aim now is for the World Champs and European Champs in Canada & Italy respectively in the next couple of years.
It was a good distraction for her. She did very well, in the 100m Free, she was entered with her best time in 2017 which was 2:21:00. She stormed it with a stunning 1:59:60. I don't know what she had for breakfast but it worked! Her 50m Fly entered time was 1:33:47, Ciara swam it it 1:19:00. She also swam 50m Breast with no time entered, she achieved 1:30:00, but more positively, she is now regularly swimming breast stroke without being disqualified. She was entered in the 100m Back but was too shattered to compete. The first 3 races were consecutive and she just didn't have anything left in the tank.
We are all very proud of her achievements, well done Ciara!!
