MATCH REPORT -LONDON SWIMMING REGIONAL AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIP 20th/21st May 2017

 

Back in the more familiar surroundings of Crystal Palace for this second week end of ‘The Regionals’.

The girls’ 100 backstroke was the first event this weekend. Mila Jovanov (1:15.24) and Olivia Ellender (1:16.63) finished 6th and 7th respectively in the 11/12-year age group final, Sophie Field (1:13.67) finished 8th in the 13-year age group final and Frances Newe (1:10.78) finished 5th in the 14 year age group final. Marion Cole (1:18.19) swam in 11/12-year age group heats and Nora Francillon (1:14.96) swam in the 14-year age group heats.

This was followed by the boys 100 Breaststroke. Christopher Chilton (1:26.67) was the fastest Dolphin in the 11/12-year age group with Harvey Chapman Lennon (1:29.93), Jasper Callaway (1:30.50), Zachary Crowther (1:31.50) and Noah Sareen (1:36.51) all representing the Dolphins in the 11/12-year age group. Sam Ridgley swam a time of 1:23.52 making him 9th overall in the 13-year age group, also finishing 9th overall in his age group was Theo Thompson who swam a time of 1:16.40 in the 14-year age group. Maxwell Brooks also swam in the 14-year age group in a time of 1:19.51.

Mila Jovanov earnt her first gold medal of this weekend in the Girls’ 400 Free in the 11/12-year age group with a time of 4:59.65. Sophie Field swam a 5:03.56 in the 13-year age group.

Lucy Donald made the 13-year age group final in 50 Breaststroke finishing 7th in a time of 38.07 whilst Frances Newe finished 5th in the 14-year age group final in a time of 36.25. Nora Francillon (38.29), took part in the 14-year age group heats.

In the Boys’ 50 Breaststroke James Rates and Zachary Crowther both swam exactly the same time, 39.65 in the 11/12-year age group heats to tie for 8th overall. In the event, it was Zachary Crowther who swam the final, where he finished 8th with a time of 40.24. Jasper Callaway (40.09), Christopher Chilton (40.13) and Harvey Chapman Lennon (40.29) all swam in the 11/12-year age group heats. Theo Thompson (35.68) and George Rates (36.62) swam in the 14-year age group heats.

Marion Cole added another Bronze medal to the two she had won last weekend in the 11/12-year age group 50 Butterfly competition finishing 3rd in a time of 32.52. Estella Auger swam 33.31 in the 13-year age group heats.

Sam Ridgley made sixth in the 13-year age group final of the boys 200 Freestyle in a time of 2:15.27. In the same event James Rates (2:21.80), Christopher Chilton (2:25.87) and Noah Sareen(2:31.68) swam for the Dolphins in the 11/12-year age group heats and Maxwell Brooks swam 2:16.42 in the 14 year age group heats.

More medals came Dolphins way in Saturday’s final event the girls 200 I.M. Whilst Mila Jovanov scored a Silver medal in the 11/12-year age group in 2:40.13 Frances Newe claimed her fifth Gold medal of this year’s Regional campaign in the 14-year age group in 2:26.92. In the same event Sophie Field (2:43.73) and Estella Auger (2:49.63) both swam in the 13-year age group heats.

As Sunday began Sam Ridgley once again finished sixth this time in the 13-year age group final of the boys 100 Backstroke in a time of 1:13.42. James Rates (1:16.60) and Jasper Callaway (1:17.32) swam in the 11/12-year age group heats and Conell Sareen (1:12.75) did likewise in the 14-year age group.

After the heats, Frances Newe was seeded second going into the Girls 14-year age group 100 Breaststroke final with less than a second separating the three fastest swimmers. In the final she finished first, by the narrowest of margins, in a time of 1:16.93 and claimed her sixth Gold medal. Mila Jovanov also medalled in this event winning Bronze in the 11/12-year age group.  Lucy Donald (1:26.55) and Nora Francillon (1:24.49) swam in this event’s 13 and 14-year age group heats respectively.

Four boys swam the 400 Freestyle. James Rates was the fastest of the 11/12-year age group Dolphins finishing 9th overall in a time of 4:59.92, in the same group Christopher Chilton swam 5:02.56. Sam Ridgley (4:48.50) and Maxwell Brooks (4:41.73) also both finished 9th in 13 and 14-year age groups respectively.

After a short break, it was the boys 50 Butterfly.  Only boys from the 11/12-year age group swam this event for Dolphins with James Rates coming 7th in the age group final with a time of 32.31 whilst Jasper Callaway (34.23), Theodore Djidetchian (34.82), Zachary Crowther (35.40) and Mason Graves Brown (35.66) all took part the heats.  

200 Freestyle was the final girls event of this year and in the 11/12-year age group Mila Jovanov seized the opportunity to score her 4th gold medal of this Regionals in a time of 2:17.84. Olivia Ellender (2:28.81) and Marion Cole (2:30.22) swam in the heats in the same age group. Sophie Field (2:19.37) and Frances Newe (2:17.85) both finished 10th overall in the 13 and 14-year age groups.

 There were two finalists in the Boys 200 I.M. James Rates once again made the 11/12-year age group final and finished 5th in a time of 2:39.68 whilst Theo Thompson finished 6th in the 14-year age group in a time of 2:25.27. Jasper Callaway (2:45.56) and Christopher Chilton (2:45.81) also swam in the 11/12-year age group and Maxwell Brooks (2:30.20) also swam in the 14-year age group.

And that was that. Dulwich Dolphins demonstrated skill and heart throughout this competition and will no doubt go from strength to strength in the years to come.
