Three Caradon swimmers made the long journey to the Ponds Forge International Pool in Sheffield to compete in the annual National Masters Championships and is the highlight of the national Masters short course calendar and is the highlight of the national Masters short course calendar.
 
In the 65 to 69 year age group, Vicki Buck exceeded all expectations following a recent hip replacement by winning a silver medal in the 100m Backstroke with a time of 1:52.93 and a bronze in the 50m Backstroke with a time of 51.40 – her quickest time by some 3 seconds since 2014.
 
The 200m Backstroke took it’s toll where she finished just outside the medals in 4th place with a time of 3:58.72 but followed that on the last day in the 100m Freestyle touching second in her heat in a time of 1:38.07, again quicker than she has swum since 2015.
 
Mick Swift was in fine form in the Breaststroke events, firstly in the 200m event.  Swimming in the very competitive 60 to 64 year age group, he was pleased with a time of 3:17.30 finishing 7th and followed this with another 7th place in the 100m with his quickest ranked time since 2015 clocking 1:27.22.  In his last race of the weekend, the 50m event, he achieved a time of 38.29, his best time for 2 years, to finish 7th.
 
Paul Hatton in the 45 to 49 year age group took part in the 400m Freestyle event finishing with a time of 4:56.25, just over a second slower than his best ranked time since 2015.
