Swim England Awards, Volunteer of the Year 2017

Congratulations from everyone at Team Bath AS to Karen Bowen on winning Volunteer of the Year 2017 today at the annual Swim England awards (photo attached). 

Here is Karens winning nomination for ASA Volunteer of the year for the work that she's done for us in the last 12 months!! 

Karen Bowen is much more than Training and Development Officer for Team Bath AS. She also provides an indispensible link between Team Bath AS and our local network clubs and is worth her weight in Gold.

Over the last 12 months she diligently attended monthly committee meetings and quarterly Network club committee meetings. 

Karen has secured vital funding for the club. In September 2016 she instigated the review into crowdfunding models and fundraising initiatives. She frequently provides a myriad of facts/numbers and statistics to the sponsorship team to help them when pitching for partners. 

Karen promoted Parents in Sport Week (3rd October to 9th October 2016 and led this initiative highlighting the importance of parents to a young person’s enjoyment of their sport. 
Karen arranged for members of our club to attend the West of England Celebration of Sport Evening, held in Bristol on 21st October 2016. She nominated coach Sylvia Sinclair and volunteer co-ordinator Nat Gordon for their volunteer work and also nominated one of our swimmers who was recognised with The “Inspirational Athlete Award” from Steve Backley. 
Karen publicised and promoted an inspirational visit from Olympic swimmer, Cameron Kurle on 8th November 2016.  
In November 2016 Karen organised our clubs attendance at the Bath Chronicle Sports Awards arranged our entry as Community club of the year, booked the table and even organised taxis! 

For the 2016 ASA Winter nationals Karen arranged coach cover with another team so our swimmers had a coach.

Karen attended Keynshams AGM’ on behalf of the club to thank the volunteers at Keynsham for their work. Karen has co-ordinated and organised training for our workforce over the last 12 months this included the qualification of 14 people attending Safeguarding and Protecting Children Course with Sportscoach UK in December 2016. 

She organised, arranged and publicised a Team Manager 1 Module training course which 16 people attended on 11th March 2017. Also in March s he put together Team Bath AS Development Plan a detailed ten-page document, which helped secure funding. 

In May 2017 she entered the club into the Community Sport & Recreation Alliance Awards. 

In June 2017 during (volunteers week) she bought gifts for and promoted the work of a lot of other volunteers to say thank you. Also in June she entered one of our volunteers into Swim England South West Volunteer of the Month Award. She publicized in May 2017 one of our young male swimmers becoming a sporting ambassador and publicised a backstroke master classes that the club was running in June 2017. She organized and publicised J1 Officials training which took place in Bath in June and July 2017.

She organises the clubs young volunteers programme as part of this SW regional programme. 

Karen is working on our October 2018 overseas camp and is heading up the subcommittee and liaising with the tour provider. She has booked the trip to secure the camp and is collecting all the forms from the swimmers.
