05 November 2017
We are delighted to announce that our very own Masters Swimmer and parent Amanda Losasso and Martin Lovegrove parent and Swim Mark co-ordinator have passed their officials training and are now a J1 judge. Congratulations to them both.
Martin would like to share his journey with you in the hope that it might encourage other parents to do the same and for more information, you can also follow this link.
My Journey to being a J1 Judge
I began my journey to being a J1 Judge on 2nd April 2017 at the County Intermediate Gala where I started Timekeeping. I was a little nervous standing behind the blocks for the first time, but I must of done okay because my Timekeeping was signed off that day!
Since then it has taken me a further 5 competitions, (9 actual days), to be completely signed off as I was on Sunday 5th November 2017 at the North Cornwall open Gala. I could of done it a lot quicker but my own availability held me back due to other commitments.
When I was first asked, I wasn’t sure that it would be for me, but to be honest I thoroughly enjoy it. I have always liked to be doing something and time certainly flies.
It is great to be involved and every day I learn something new, which I’m sure will continue even though I am now qualified. The support I have received from the other Officials has been amazing, especially in Cornwall. I could not have done it without them. Maureen Davies teaches us that we are all part of a team in Cornwall and that certainly comes across. You can ask anyone a question, (which I often did),and they are only too glad to help.
I would encourage anyone who would like to become a J1 Judge, to do so. We have to provide Officials as a club and it is a great way to spend the day instead of being sat poolside. If anyone wishes to ask me any questions about the process, please feel free to do so.
If I can do it, anyone can!
Now onto my J2!!! ………………………………………………………
