Well done to all the swimmers who took part in last weekends Club Champianships. We had swimmers as young as 6 and some returning from university racing in the same events, it was lovely to see. This weekend saw 11 club records broken, one of which goes all the way back to 2005; before many of our youngsters were born! So an extra special well done to the following:
Edison Butler broke 3 age 9 records; 50 and 200 free in 37.25 and 3:01.09 respectively and 50 fly in 41.83, a 3 second improvement over the previous record. Amazingly, both Josh Miles and Harry Galloway also swam faster than the previous 50 free record and Harry Galloway the 50 fly record too. What an amazing bunch of boys, the future is certainly looking bright for our 9 year old boys.
Harry Galloway also broke the age 9 50 backstroke record, by 2.5 seconds, Swimming 41.88 seconds, making it 4 of the 6 age 9 boys records broken in 2017.
Izzy Nethercott set a new record in the age 10 50 backstroke, breaking the previous record set by Loren Blake in 2005. Izzy reduced the record by almost a second to finish in 37.72 seconds.
Harrison Marshall broke 2 age 10 records. His 200 free, swam in 2:53.25 beating the previous time by 8.5 seconds! He also took the 100 IM by 9 seconds in 1:26.84!
Jess Lawton broke 2 age 11 records. The 100 IM in 1:17.83 and the 50 fly in 32.26, a massive 1.5 seconds off the record set back in 2006.
Georgia Gussey also broke 2 records. The age 9-13 100 breaststroke, in 1:15.57 and previously held by our very own Olympian Siobhan O’Connor, and the age 12-13 50 breaststroke in a time of 35.58 seconds.
Thank you to Chris Metcalfe and his army of helpers, without whom we could never run such an event. If you would like to get more involved with the club, we are always looking for more volunteers, and can offer training in a number of roles, please contact Chris. Finally a big thank you to the cake bakers, they were amazing.
