WDSC swimmers sweep-up prestigious awards

The Wycombe District Council and Sir Steve Redgrave Talented Athlete Bursaries 2017 were awarded to 17 athletes in the district on Thursday 9th November at Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre.

The bursaries are awarded to County, Regional, National and International athletes who are under 21 and who live in the Wycombe District Council area.

This year the 

awards were presented by Aaron Phipps (Paralympic wheelchair rugby), Sarah Winkless MBE, and Dame Katherine Grainger, all supported by James Cavalier from Active-in.

The Sir Steve Redgrave Bursaries are awarded to international level athletes, each of whom are interviewed in advance of the awards ceremony by Sarah Winkless and Katherine Grainger. The bursaries are to designed to help the athletes with the financial costs of competing at the top of their sports for example training fees, travel and competition entries.

It was a proud night for everyone involved at WDSC as three of its swimmers locked-out the podium, taking home the prestigious top three bursaries. These were awarded to:

  • 1st Sarah Collin
  • 2nd Millie Sansome
  • 3rd James Eddy


And big congratulations as well to Ella Dyson and Tom Sansome who won two out of the five Regional awards.
