December / New Year Newsletter

Happy New Year!

Message from Head Coach

The month was filled with FSC swimmers chasing County qualifying times…….The first weekend was the Guildford City Last Chance Qualifier, followed by the Hart Last Chance Qualifier on the 12th  and our very own FSC Last Chance Qualifying meets held on the 17th  and 19th . Several of our swimmers achieved either their first County qualifying time or added to their list of events to compete in the County Champs later this month and in February. Congratulations to all of our swimmers who have achieved County qualification and to those of you, who fell short, keep working hard and you will achieve the standards next year!

In between all of the last chance meets FSC competed in the final round of the National Arena League held in Portsmouth on the 9th at the Mountbatten Centre. The meet proved to be very competitive and brought out the very best of our swimmers. FSC finished in 6th place overall with many of the races being decided by the smallest of margins. Lots of personal best times were

recorded by FSC swimmers and the support was at its highest levels from parent supporters, swimmers and coaching staff. A GREAT Team effort! Well done to all!

Let’s continue to build upon our successes from 2017 and make 2018 an even better year of fast swimming!!

Coach Martin

Message from Treasurer – Updating Standing Orders

Believe it or not, some people still have not updated their standing orders from September changes. They are all small amounts but this will build up over time,

Important News & Reports

1. Farewell to Keith

We have said a fond farewell to Keith Pepper who has decided to retire after being with FSC after over ten amazing years.  Keith has contributed to the growth of the club from various positions as a coach and through various roles as a committee member.  Many swimmers have benefitted from Keith’s expertise and his approachable and warm personality, developing to become great swimmers and great personalities too.  Since he was with FSC throughout the creation of Barracudas Squad it was fitting for his last session to be with them at the end of December where the chairman, committee representatives and the Barracudas swimmers gave him leaving cards and thank you gifts.  Thank you Keith for all the hard work, support and guidance you gave to the many squads you have coached and swimmers you have helped and advised, it has been invaluable.  We wish you well and we are looking forward to your formal farewell at the awards presentation.

3. Changes to Club Kit

As we have communicated through our recent newsletter, the Club will be celebrating its 125th anniversary since it was founded back in 1893, starting January 2018!

This is an exciting time in the Club's history and a huge honour for all of us to be part of such a significant milestone, not only for the Club, but for Swim England also!

As part of a series of initiatives we are planning to launch in the coming months and to kick off our celebrations, we are thrilled to announce our '125 Years Gold Kit' which is now available -

This kit is uniquely designed to commemorate the Club's 125 year anniversary and features new black and red designs bundled with beautiful gold logo patterns! This 'one off' kit will only be available for a few months to give you the opportunity to own something very special and unique which will remain in history forever!

This initiative also marks our new collaboration with Fastlegs, the specialist swimwear provider who will be managing our kit going forward. This new service is already available to all and gives you the opportunity to order the kit directly online, through a dedicated FSC microsite. In due course, we will upload all of our existing stock there plus new, exciting gear!

FSC onesies and the old style t-bag are available still through Cathie, either via the Sunday desk or via Cathie direct.

5. Olympic Pool Visit

**Please be aware the Olympic Pool trip is being moved from 13th January to another date in March (TBC) due to the County Championships being held that same day**
