Technical and Non-Technical Volunteers Required
31 January 2018
We had a great turnout of swimmers at last Friday's Academy and Junior Gala, which was fantastic to see, but the shortage of volunteers meant we were unable to run it as efficiently as we would have liked. As a result, swimmers had to get out of the water at the end of each heat before the next could start, meaning the gala ran longer than expected, and we apologise if you were expecting to be home a little earlier.
Like many other swimming clubs, Kingston Royals is heavily reliant on volunteers to make these galas a success. We really need each family to get involved as much as they can.
When we licence galas, in order to meet the terms of our licence, we are required to have sufficient licensed officials to ensure that the times your children obtain at galas, such as those on Friday, are official times and can be used to enter open meets run by external clubs, as well as being used to gain Surrey qualifying times. This requirement also applies to all club championship galas we organise throughout the year.
There are many ways in which you can help volunteer at internal club galas, the Royals open meets and club attended open meets. The volunteer roles cover both technical and non-technical help. Examples of non-technical roles are set out below:-
- medals table
- helping with raffle collection and entry desk
- marshalling the swimmers into their heats before each event
- helping with the refreshments
- MC / announcer
Being down at poolside is often cooler than up in the spectator gallery and you are also served with free water and sweets!
If you would prefer to get involved on the technical side (which includes roles such as timekeeping and judging), please take a couple of minutes to read the following:-
Many external open meets make it a condition of entry that we supply a certain number of technical officials. In the event we do not, they are at liberty to reject all our entries. Similarly, if we do not have sufficient volunteers at our own internal galas and open meets, they could end up being cancelled and the children will not get to swim. If we rely on the same faces every time, we will eventually have a serious shortage of volunteers as swimmers will eventually move on, so the more new volunteers we have, the better.
If you would like to help, please contact Zina Williams (email@example.com) or Claire Austin (claire.austin@kingstonroyals.
We look forward to hearing from you and please remember that you can sign up for jobs online via Team Unify when you see the "Job Sign Up" icon as and when an internal gala or KRSC open meet is open for entry.
