Chiltern League Division 2 Round 1
We attended Chiltern League for the first time last Saturday. The Chiltern League allows us to give all swimmers in the club the opportunity to swim in a league.
I have to say that everyone did really well in a friendly but still competitive atmosphere.
Please firstly let me say a big thank you to all our volunteers on the day, we wouldn't have been able to attend the league without their help. Caroline Wright and Natalie Player were fantastic as first time time keepers being helped by out excellent J2 Nicki Simpkins, and Nicola Middleton made sure that our swimmers were safe in the water as warm up marshal. Heidi Surman and Diane Ewart were invaluable pool side with our swimmers in organising, whipping (lining them up for racing (not hitting them with a whip :)), and timing them. Their help is not only really appreciated but vital for our all volunteer club. Many many thanks.
And we were there to swim, and while we didn't win the thing on our first go we gave it a really good go. Four races to the end we were leading by 9 points with our relay teams to go.
While everyone swam well, and there were some great PBs, what I'd like to do is highlight the effort that they all went to. We were short boys in all the age groups, meaning we couldn't put in a 10 and under relay team, and our 14 and under boys were competing in the open events, our 10 and unders were competing in 12 and unders and doing really well. Our only 12 and under boy Mathew Wright was a star. He competed in the 12 and unders, 14 and unders and the open events swimming with a great attitude, and with maximum effort. And please don't think that took anything away from the girls, they were winning races, swimming up into higher age groups, and holding their own while doing so. A really great team effort. Thanks so much for the effort that you all put in.
A really fantastic result from our first effort, am I'm so proud of the team. Really we'll done all, and many many thanks again to all the swimmers and volunteers. I'll hopefully see you all on the 17th March to give it another go!
