WDSC places 3rd at Bracknell Masters

WDSC Masters were out in force at the 23rd Bracknell and Wokingham Open Masters Meet on Saturday 3rd March. With a team of 20 swimmers this was a far cry and massive development from 2016 when only 2 WDSC Masters competed at this event (in 2017 there were 8).

This event had a special event following the death in January of Bracknell Master Mike Daniell which was a 4x25m exhibition butterfly relay – the key ingredient was to be minus cap and goggles as this was how Mike always swam his favourite event. Mike was well known to some of the WDSC Masters, and the team was eager to take part in memory of him.

WDSC results were as follows:
Gold: 20 medals
Silver: 19 medals
Bronze: 9 medals

Overall Team result (two years ago we were 32nd!!)
1st Teddington
2nd Bracknell
3rd Wycombe

Top Swimmers (out of the 196 taking part)
Pip Williams 6th overall
Greg Du Tertre 16th overall

Stand-out swims
Joseph Oswald  - a storming 50 free in 29.27.
Sharon Hill - a great 50 free in 34.88

And a special big shout out to Sharon Hill and Steve Quinn who were competing in the pool as Masters for the first time ever!

Who says swimming is a non-contact sport - Louise Henley took an injury in a very tight finish, smashing into the wall with a straight arm and damaging her elbow. That means no swimming for a few weeks - but get well and come back as soon as possible Louise.

This is what happens when you lend your phone to one of our junior swimmers who came to cheer on her Dad - thanks very much Annabelle Compton!!

This is the nearest we could get to the team photo - as ever we were celebrating, rehydrating and eating as if famished in Tiger Gardens in Marlow (it’s traditional!)
