Introducing ‘North London Aquatics’ a Sporting Charity: Regitered Charity no: 1175869

It's not everyday you get asked to be part of building a deep water pool! Click HERE to see a short film about this project.

North London Aquatics was born after a successful campaign between July and December 2016 which saw the #SaveBarnetDiving team win the hearts and minds of those not just in Barnet, North London but across the Capital. As a group we created excitement around not just diving but the precious deep water sporting facility in the community.

Our aim is to build a deep-water pool to use for disability water sports, diving, water polo, synchronised swimming, sub-aqua, underwater rugby and hockey , float fitness and more for the whole of the North London region. In addition it will be a regional centre of excellence providing a deep water facility providing an inspiring opportunity for a diverse community. It will provide a much needed link between the Aquatics Centre in Stratford and Luton, making easy access to a North London facility. In turn by achieving our goal we will help protect the Olympic Legacy of 2012. We aim to put disability water sport on the map not just in London but across the UK.

For the past 40 years, the North London community has enjoyed the use of Barnet Copthall’s moveable floor pool and our charity will secure this facility for the next generation.  By retaining this facility we not only preserve the current participation but aim to increase and develop more activity through a varied timetable.  This will help  get more people physically active and particularly those that do not favour traditional sports. The benefits for health and well being will be second to none. The current Pool will close in 2019.

We have the weight of the community behind us. Local families from all walks of life are united to support our new charity together. Previously the campaign launched an on-line petition and canvassed local people; we managed to gain over 9,000  signatures within five months, an unprecedented level of active interest, which local councillors have applauded. This impressive people power generated a high-profile campaign that has been featured in national television coverage, a social media following and generated national and local press. Consequently, the council has pledged to provide land for a deep-water pool, as well as £500,000 as a starting sum that will fund construction. The pool will be located at Barnet Copthall, attached to the New Leisure centre.

We are also closely working with five cross party Barnet councillors, including the Deputy Mayor for Barnet, to make the community’s dream of a deep-water pool a reality. We are a strong committed team that has lead the campaign to success and now will develop a strong charity focus. Having spent the last 18 months together we have created a strong bond, as have the young children involved thus creating a group of excellent volunteers.

We also have the support of Tom Daley and Joanna Lumley is our Patron. Some recent items of note:
