Entries are open for Weston-super-Mare’s Open Water
Development Series at Clevedon Marine Lake. The Series has been
designed to start at the beginning of the open water season in May
2018 and finish at the end of the open water season in September
2018, which coincides with the beginning of the swimming
This event is being supported by Marlens
, the charity behind Clevedon Marine
Lake and is also supported by Somerset ASA. Weston-super-Mare Swimming Club
teamed up with The Salt House
next to the lake to offer
food and drink for each event.
The Series will be held over three dates (see below) and is open to
all Clubs in the South West and beyond.
The Club aims to raise the profile of open water swimming by
offering competitive opportunities which will develop the next
generation of Open Water swimmers in Age, Youth and Masters
swimming and Triathletes.
If you haven't tried competitive Open Water swimming before maybe
this is the time to consider it!
Event 1 in the series will be a taster to practise all things
race pace, covering
a mini acclimatization,
mass start practice,
turns around buoys followed by
a distance event for each age group. The events will mirror the
distances offered at the 2017 Regional Championships in Weymouth.
Times will be given to each swimmer but no medals will be awarded
for the first event.
For Event 2 and 3, event distances will increase and will mirror
those offered at 2018's Regional and National Championships. The
750m taster event is now 1k. The 1.5k is now the 2k. The 3k and 5k
will stay the same.

The events are open to registered members of clubs affiliated to
Swim England, Swim Wales and Swim Scotland. Non-members wishing to
take part must take out temporary membership of Swim England by
downloading and completing the ASA Temporary Membership form
, (also available
to print from the bottom of the Entry Info) and send to Laura
Nesbitt once the Entry Form has been completed and payment made.
Payment for ASA temporary membership is £10 and should be
made at the same time as paying your entry fees.

Swimmers who are unable to compete in the Regional Open Water
Championships in Weymouth on Saturday 7 July 2018 can still qualify
for National Open Water Championships provided they have equalled
or bettered the qualifying time in a 800m or 1500m pool event
designated or licensed by Swim England, Scottish Swimming or Swim
Wales for entry into National competitions. Details via the Swim England website
