Kevin gets Great Britain call-up as Head Coach

WDSC Head Coach Kevin Brooks has recently been appointed as Head Coach to the Great Britain European Junior (Female) Team; which will be competing in Helsinki, Finland this July.

This selection follows on from his selection last year as a “group coach” on the 2017 European Junior Team in Israel. This 2017 team was the team where WDSC swimmers James Eddy and James McFadzen competed and where McFadzen earnt himself two International Junior Bronze medals in the 200 IM and 4x100 Mixed Medley Relay. Indeed, last summer WDSC swimmers picked up 5 international medals; the other 3 coming from Millie Sansome at the European Junior Open Water Championships and James at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Commenting on his selection, Kevin said “I’m delighted that British Swimming has selected me to represent my Country in a management and coaching position and I can’t wait to work with the other staff and swimmers selected for the event”. At 36 years of age this comes at a time when Kevin has been personally coaching swimmers to international level since 2004 and at a time when WDSC are going from strength to strength locally and nationally, having just come 4th at the National Arena League Cup Final.

Club Chairman Sam Sansome remarked “I’m thrilled for Kevin and for the club. This recognition for him and WDSC is well-timed and sets our club apart from many. We’re a club for all, but importantly we can take swimmers to the highest level through the structures, pool-time and coaching resources that we have on offer; and this appointment adds credit to that. Additionally, with our Lead Performance Coach Josh Atkins recently being appointed to coach for England on the Open Water Phase 3 camp this May, it just demonstrates the depth of our coaching team here at Wycombe”
