South East Regionals (Swim England) Under 14s - Head Coach Report
13 May 2018
Words by Head Coach, Shaun Dominy (13 May 18)
The weekend started with the usual early 6am start with me arriving at the pool nearly an hour before the warm up. Pretty soon I was met by a lively and ready for competition Lottie Jackson who had her box of pretzels in hand and rattling around! After a warm up and discussions about diving distances she swam a fantastic 200 IM with a PB and achieved a reserve place in the final.
The next session saw the arrival of a chirpy Thomas Duddridge who was in a bit of shock over the size of the event. They both warmed up and swam fantastic pb's in 200 Fly (Lottie) and 100 FS (Thomas). Both times were strong enough to qualify and set up a nail biting finals session. I did my best to motivate them both explaining that the work had been done and to go and enjoy the final - but not finish it thinking they could have given more. Neither disappointed and they swam for their lives, medalling in both events (Lottie Silver and Thomas Bronze). Once we got back to the seating area, I explained to them that even I needed to sit down as I felt that I had swam every stroke of their races also! A fantastic day one, which was going to be hard to top.
Katie Pengilley joined the party on Sunday and swam 200 BK and was happy with a LC PB and achieved her target for the meet. The dynamic duo struck again and both produced strong heat swims to earn places in finals (200 FS Thomas and 100 Fly Lottie). Unfortunately both were pushed out of the medals on this occasion.
