CWSC Swimmers Shine Bright at London Region Summer Championships

Over the last three weekends the majority of the club's performance squad swimmers have raced against the best in the London Region.
There were outstanding swims across all three weekends. Noticeably, in weekend one (Youth Regionals) Alex Rowson won the 100 and 200 freestyle smashing his personal best times by over a second. The 17+ girls picked up a relay medal and now stand a chance at qualifying for Nationals. Andrew Hong had fantastic 100 fly and 200 backstroke breaking the club records in both! Andrew's teammate William Rudd also raced to a club record and personal best in the 50m backstroke. Multi-eventer Christy Moon displayed his endurance throughout the three days to finish racing to a win on the 200 fly on day 3. Christy had a heavy programme across the three days so it was great to see him finish on a high with sheer grit and determination. Emily Surminski laid down some fantastic breaststroke results. Not long after returning from injury to swim so close to her best times reflects Emily’s talent and competitiveness, which was a pleasure to see. Emily is definitely someone to watch over the next few months, to track her progression further.
The two Age Group weekends lead CWSC to finish TOP CLUB in the medal table. Collecting 24 Golds, 14 Silvers and 15 Bronzes the swimmers had almost 100% personal best success. Growing with confidence and skill, swimmers displayed fantastic resilience with most competing in a multi event programme leading to back to back racing.  Balthazar Bradshaw claimed several golds accross his major events. Balthazar showed great maturity, particularly in his 100 butterfly and 200 IM. His 100 fly was nearly a negative split and he stormed through to the finish on his 200IM - both were personal best times by over 5 seconds! Edward Whittles shone during both weekends swimming personal bests in all of his events. It was fantastic to see that even on each of the days' last events, Edward was digging deep in finals and smashing his PBs by seconds. Similarly, Lavinia Ricca had 100% personal best strike across her multiple events. Collecting 6 medals, the highlight for Lavinia was her ability to progress from heat to final, swimming faster between the two. It was fantastic to see her breaking the club record by 5 seconds on the 200IM. Strong swims also from Thomasina Grove, picking up a couple of 4th place finishes and finally a silver medal in her 50 fly, as well as Mehmet Zeren who swam consistently throughout the two weekends collecting medals and PBs with almost every swim.
In total across the 3 weakends 14 club records were broken:
Alex Rowson - 200 fc (open)
Andrew Hong - 200 back + 100 fly (14/15yrs)
William Rudd - 50 bk (14/15 yrs)
Edward Whittles - 200 fly (12/13yrs)
Lavinia Ricca - 50 brst/100 brst/200 brst/100 bk/200 bk/200 freestyle/200 IM (11+u)
Thomasina Grove - 50 bk/50 fly (11+u)
To have the club represented so strongly across heats and finals bodes for an exciting future. A huge well done to all swimmers that took part. To attend Regionals is an experience on the competitive pathway and all in the club are very proud of these fantastic achievements.
