Nova enjoy outstanding success at 1st weekend of Regionals

The 50m international pool at Ponds Forge, Sheffield was the location for the 1st weekend of the 2018 East Midlands Regional Championships for swimmers aged 14yrs and over during the weekend of 14th and 15th April 2018. Nova Centurion had a large number of swimmers that qualified for this prestigious competition.

19 of the Nova swimmers came away with a total of 51 individual medals for finishing in the top 3 in their respective age group finals or in the top 3 of the 400m Heat Declared Winner events. This included 18 Gold, 22 Silver and 11 Bronze medals. In addition to these 40 medal winning appearances in finals the Nova squad swimmers also secured another 90 places in their respective age group finals to secure 4th to 10th place finishes.

In addition to individual event successes the Nova teams also did themselves proud in the team relay events winning 2 Golds and 2 Bronze medals. The Womens 17yrs and over team (Kathryn Henderson, Cira Fletcher, Polly Holden and Mollie Wright) won Gold in the 4 x 100m Medley event. The Girls 14-16yrs team (Freya Colbert, Annie Pearson, Amy Mead and Rebecca Flisher) won Gold in the 4 x 100m Freestyle event. The slightly changed 14-16yrs Medley team (Freya Colbert, Amy Mead, Emma Erskine and Annie Pearson) won a Bronze medal in the 4 x 100m Medley event. The Boys 14-16yrs team (Joshua Skinner, Ryan Wilcox, Cole Hewitt and Dominic Bools) also came home with a Bronze medal in the 4 x100m Medley relay event.   

The Nova swimmers securing the 14 Gold individual medals to be crowned Midland Champions are detailed below:

Freya Colbert 14yrs won 6 x Golds in the 400m Freestyle, 200m Butterfly, 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle and 400m Individual Medley (Heat Declared Winner and Final) events. Freya also won 2 Bronze medals and competed in 1 other final. 

Polly Holden 19yrs won 3 x Golds in the 400m Freestyle (heats and Final) and 200m Freestyle events. Polly also competed in the final of the 100m Freestyle event.

Matthew Woodhall 14yrs won Gold in the 100m Butterfly event. Matthew also won 5 Silver medals in the 400m Individual Medley, 200m Backstroke, 400m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and the 200m Individual Medley events. 

Emma Erskine 14yrs won Gold in the 100m Backstroke event. Emma also won 4 Silver medals and a Bronze medal as well as reaching 3 other finals. 

Joseph Kingsland 15yrs won Gold in the 200m Breaststroke event. Joseph also won 4 other Silver medals in reaching 3 other finals and the heat declared runner up in 400m freestyle.

Molly Wright 20yrs won 1 x Gold in the 400m Individual Medley (Heat Declared Winner) plus 3 x Silver medals and 1 Bronze medal. Molly also competed in 2 other finals. 

Cole Hewitt 16yrs won Gold in the 100m Butterfly event. Cole also won a Silver medal in the 200m Butterfly as well as competing in 2 other finals. 

Cira Fletcher 20yrs won Gold in the 100m Breaststroke event. Cira also won a Silver medal in the 200m Breaststroke event. 

Merewyn Jones 14yrs won Gold in the 200m Breaststroke event. Merewyn also won a Bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke event and competed in 1 other final.  

Dominic Bools 15yrs won Gold in the 100m Breaststroke event. Dominic also reached 5 other finals.

Charly Neilson 19yrs won Gold in the 200m Breaststroke event. Charly also competed in 1 other final. 

The other Nova swimmers winning Silver and Bronze medals are detailed below:

Hollie-Mae Dove 15yrs won 2 x Silver medals.

Summer Simpson 14yrs won 1 Silver medal.

William Turnock 14yrs won 1 Silver medal. William also competed in 2 other finals.  

David Sroka 14yrs won 2 x Bronze medals. David also competed in 3 other finals. 

Rebecca Flisher 16yrs won 1 Bronze medal. Rebecca also competed in 3 other finals.

Ella Gallagher 15yrs won 1 Bronze medal.

Jimi Knowles 15yrs won 1 Bronze medal. Jimi also competed in 3 other finals. 

Imogen Spouge 5yrs won 1 Bronze medal. Imogen also competed in 3 other finals.
