Congratulations to Jamie Scholes on achieving his first Great Britain cap representing British Swimming in the LEN European Junior Open Water Championships in Malta.
Jamie raced in the 10km marathon race and finished 21st, 2nd Brit in only his 2nd 10km race. This is an excellent result consider Jamie's inexperience, and has given him an excellent education in world class open water racing to stand him in good sted for the future.
Jamie only turned his talents to open water this time last year and made an immediate impact winning national championships at Sheffield. He then got selectedto represent SwimEngland at the BEST FEST Open Water Festival in Majorca in May this year, in which he won the series, winning a cash prize of £500!
Jamie is also challenging to win the Great Swim series, and competes in Loch Lomand, Scotland in August in the final series, to win the cash prize for top overall performer, plus win a chance to be part of the British Swimming programme.
Jamie is the 4th COPS Mini Squad swimmer makes Great Britain international honours out of the 7 we have put in GB kits, in the last 11 year. This is a great sign of the club producing stars from its roots and we couldn't be prouder of Jamie and his achievements this season.
