Nova continues success at SE Summer National Champs

The 2018 Swim England Summer National Championships were hosted at Ponds Forge, Sheffield between 31st July and 4th August 2018. The top 20 English swimmers in each event outside of those that qualified for the British Summer Championships were eligible to compete in these Championships and so qualification again was something for all swimmers to be proud of.

Swimmers from the Nottinghamshire Nova Centurion swim squad enjoyed incredible individual successes throughout this week of competition again coming away with medals and a number of qualifications for finals at this top level of competition.

Nova had 4 of their swimmers crowned as English Summer National Champions and taking Gold medals home with them. These were Joshua Skinner 15yrs, Rhys Taylor 18yrs, Chloe Quinn 15 yrs and Livia Kingsland 13yrs. 

Joshua Skinner actually won 2 National titles taking Gold in the 400m Individual Medley final with a time of 4.47.27 and also taking the top prize in the 100m Backstroke final finishing in a time of 1.00.63. In addition to these 2 Golds Joshua also won the Silver medal in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 8.48.38 and a Bronze medal in the 50m Backstroke final in a time of 28.68.

Rhys Taylor who is considering moving to the USA in the near future to continue his swimming and studies took the National title in the 800m Freestyle event in a time of 8.38.56. Rhys also went on to win a Bronze medal in the 1500m Freestyle event in a time of 16.31.51. 

Chloe Quinn claimed the National title and Gold medal in the 1500m Freestyle event in a new Personal Best time of 18.08.22. 

Livia Kingsland 13yrs won the National title in the 800m Freestyle with an impressive time of 9.11.77. This win completed busy schedule who also came away with 2 Bronze medals in the 200m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley events. 

Nova's other medal winners at these Championships were:

Mollie Wright 20yrs winning a Silver medal in the 200m Freestyle in a time of 2.05.53,

Joshua Harris 17yrs winning a Silver medal in the 200m Butterfly in a time of 2.07.80.

Kate Morris 13yrs winning Bronze in the 200m Butterfly

Director of Coaching at Nova Centurion Nathan Hilton stated, "Overall this was an outstanding week of performances by some of the younger up and coming athletes in Nova and shows that we are now starting to build real strength & depth within the programme, this is exciting to see and is a great credit to all coaches, swimmers & parents for supporting the process.

The last 2 weeks will stand us in good stead as we progress into next season, where all concerned will be trying to move things forward again. Exciting times are ahead with us now being named a Swim England Performance Centre.

 Full breakdown of all Nova swims at 2018 Swim England Summer National Championships

Isla Howe 16yrs finished 16th in the Multi Classification (MC) 100m Freestyle event in a time of 1.34.04. Isla then finished in 15th place in the MC 50m Freestyle event in a time of 41.51. Isla then finished in 12th place in the MC 400m Freestyle in a time of 7.00.20. Isla finished 16th in the MC 100m Backstroke event in a time of 1.58.97.

Merewyn Jones 14yrs finished 15th in the 100m Breaststroke with a time of 1.19.48. Merewyn then finished in 16th place in the 400m Freestyle with a time of 4.44.93. In the 50m Breaststroke event Merewyn finished in 11th place with a time of 36.12. Merewyn finished 13th in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 9.44.44.

Amy Mead 16yrs finished 16th in the 100m Breaststroke in a time of 1.21.16. Amy then finished 16th in the 200m Freestyle in a time of 2.16.78.

Tom Trueman 14yrs qualified in joint 8th place for the final of the 50m Freestyle event in a time of 26.24 and in the final achieved the exact same time of 26.24 to finish 7th which was one place higher than he qualified.  

Kyle Merryweather 14yrs finished in 13th place in th 50m Freestyle in a time of 26.52.

Livia Kingsland 13yrs qualified for the final of the 200m Freestyle event with a time of 2.11.79 and in the final swam even faster to claim the Bronze medal in a time of 2.10.86. Livia qualified for the final of the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.29.48 and improved on this in the final to win another Bronze medal in a time of 2.27.35. Livia qualified for the final of the 200m Butterfly in a time of 2.31.29 and in the final improved her time to 2.28.43 to finish in 4th place. Livia finished by winning the Gold medal in the 800m Freestyle in a fantastic time of 9.11.77. 

Emma Erskine 14yrs finished 19th in the 200m Freestyle in a time of 2.20.06.

Chloe Quinn 15yrs finished 17th in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2.13.52. Chloe finished in 14th position in the 200m Butterfly in a time of 2.34.09. Chloe won the Gold medal in the 1500m Freestyle by improving her best ever time to 18.08.22.

Rebecca Flisher 16yrs qualified for the final of the 200m Freestyle with a cracking time of 2.07.35 but was unable to match this in the final where she finished in 9th place. Rebecca then qualified for the final of the 400m Individual Medley in 8th place with a time of 5.14.16 but decided not to compete in the final of this event to focus on other swims. In her 400m Freestyle Rebecca qualified for the final with a heat time of 4.32.29 and in the final improved her time to 4.32.11 to finish in 4th place. Rebecca qualified for the final of the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.26.09 and finished 6th in the final unable to improve on her entry time. Rebecca finished in 8th place in the 800m Freestyle event in a time of 9.30.41.

Annie Pearson 16yrs qualified for the final of the 200m Freestyle in a time of 2.09.20 and was able to improve this in the final to finish in 7th place with a time of 2.07.89. Annie then qualified for the final of the 400m Freestyle in a time of 4.32.36 but was unable to beat this time in the final and finished in 8th place. 

Molly Wright 20yrs qualified for the final of the 200m Freestyle in a time of 2.06.95 and in the final improved this time to 2.05.53 to finish in 4th place overall but with 2 of the girls finishing ahead of her being international guests from Denmark Mollie won the Silver medal for being the 2nd fastest English swimmer. Mollie also qualified for the final of the 200m Breaststroke in a time of 2.45.37 and improved this time in the final to 2.43.95 to finish in 9th place.

Liam Dawson 13yrs finished in 12th place in the 400m Individual Medley with a time of 5.06.98. Liam qualified for the final of the 400m Freestyle in a time of 4.26.31 and in the final improved his time to 4.23.87 to finish in 8th place.

Joshua Skinner 15yrs qualified for the final of the 400m Individual Medley in second place with a time of 4.51.33 and in the final he managed to go one better by improving his time to 4.47.27 to win the Gold medal. Josh also qualified for the final of the 200m Freestyle in a time of 2.01.74 but was unable to beat this time and finished in 8th place. Joshua Skinner qualified for the final of 50m Backstroke in a time of 28.76 and improved his time in the final to 28.68 to win the Bronze medal. Josh also won the Silver medal in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 8.48.38. Joshua then qualified for the final of the 100m Backstroke in a time of 1.02.22 but in the final he swam even faster to win the Gold medal in a time of 1.00.63.

Andrew Hall 15yrs qualified for the final of 400m Individual Medley in a time of 4.57.33 but was unable to improve on this time in the final and finished in 10th place. Andrew qualified for the final of the 100m Freestyle in a time of 56.47 and improved this time in the final to 56.28 to finish in 10th place. Andrew qualified for the final of the 400m Freestyle in a time of 4.20.52 and in the final was unable to improve his time and finished in 8th place. 

Kate Morris 13yrs qualified for the final of the 400m Individual Medley in 6th place with a time of 5.20.47 and improved this significantly in the final to 5.12.78 to claim 4th place. Kate finished 17th in the 100m Butterfly in a time of 1.09.25. Kate qualified for the final of the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.30.33 and improved this time to 2.27.98 in the final to take 7th place. Kate qualified for the final of the 200m Butterfly in 5th seed with a time of 2.31.34 but improved this significantly in the final to 2.28.09 to win the Bronze medal. Kate finished 9th in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 9.44.29.

Summer Simpson 14yrs qualified for the final of the 400m Individual Medley in a time of 5.19.27 but was unable to improve this in the final where she finished in 9th place. Summer finished in 16th place in the 200m Butterfly in a time of 2.33.66. Summer had an exceptional swim in the 1500m Freestyle event beating her previous personal best entry time by 36 seconds to finish in 18.06.38 and claim 4th place. Summer finished 11th in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 9.38.34.

Imogen Spouge 15yrs finished in 18th place in the 400m Individual Medley in a time of 5.21.85. Imogen finished in 12th position in the 200m Butterfly in a time of 2.32.49. Imogen finished in 8th place in the 1500m Freestyle in a time of 18.31.16. Imogen finished 15th in the 800m Freestyle event in a time of 9.53.54.

Dawid Sroka 14yrs finished in 14th place in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 2.07.03. Dawid then finished 11th in the 100m Freestyle in a time of 57.83.

Joseph Sadler 15yrs finished in 11th place in 200m Freestyle with a time of 2.02.11.

Joseph Kingsland 15yrs finished in 13th place in the 200m Breaststroke in a time of 2.39.77.

Ryan Wilcox 16yrs qualified for the final of the 200m Breaststroke with a time of 2.34.58 and improved this time in the final to finish 4th in 2.32.63. Ryan also qualified for the final of the 400m Freestyle in a time of 4.21.58 but elected not to compete in the final. 

Bailey Ward 16yrs finished 12th in the 1500m Freestyle in a time of 17.35.06.

Joshua Harris 17yrs finished in 4th place in the 1500m Freestyle in a time of 16.42.26. Joshua then qualified for the final of the 200m Individual Medley in a time of 2.13.35 and in the final improved this time to finish in 7th place in a time of 2.11.51. Joshua qualified for the final of the 200m Butterfly in a time of 2.09.75 and in the final went even faster to win the Silver medal in a time of 2.07.80. Joshua qualified for the final of the 200m Backstroke in a time of 2.12.16 and in the final was not able to improve this time and finished in 10th place. Joshua then qualified for the final of the 400m Freestyle event by swimming a time of 4.12.46 in the heats and in the final finished in 10th place unable to improve his heat time swim. 

Rhys Taylor 18yrs won the Bronze medal in the 1500m Freestyle event in a time of 16.31.51. Rhys then won the Gold medal in the 800m Freestyle event in a time of 8.38.56.

Michael McLennan 20yrs finished in 10th place in the 1500m Freestyle in a time of 17.01.74.

William Turnock 14yrs finished in 11th place in the 200m Butterfly with a time of 2.23.49.

Jessica Reed 14yrs finished in 11th place in the 100m Freestyle in a time of 1.01.56.

Samuel Williams 18yrs qualified for the final of the 200m Backstroke in a time of 2.11.91 and in the final was unable to improve his heat time and finished in 9th place. Samuel also finished 13th in the 400m Freestyle in a time of 4.13.81.

Heidi Marriott 13yrs qualified for the final of the 200m Backstroke in a time of 2.30.71 and in the final improved this time to finish in 8th place with a time of 2.29.71.

Ella Gallagher 16yrs finished in 16th place in the 200m Backstroke in a time of 2.31.92.

Ziyenne Shanker 13yrs finished 15th in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 10.05.57.
