Club Captains 2018/19
I would like to proudly introduce the new Club Captains for the 2018/19 swimming season. Club Captains play an important role at Staines Swimming Club, acting as role models for the younger swimmers, supporting the club's coaches, helping at team events and functions and leading by example in all aspects of their training and competition.
Ladies Team Captain: Lauren Kent
Lauren who will be 16 in November has been a member of the club for many years starting as a youngster in lessons Lauren has worked her way through the squads representing the club at every level. Lauren has swum at Regional and National level representing the club at Welsh Nationals in the summer of 2018 qualifying for finals in the 50m Freestyle and 200m IM. Lauren’s commitment to the club has been fantastic, Lauren has supported and helped at the Staines-upon-Thames fair, junior galas and Black Swan Open meets. Lauren supports her team mates the younger swimmers within the club acting as a model Staines Swimmer. Lauren is entering her final year of school and will be undertaking her GCSE’s in 2019 but plans to take her level 1 teaching certificate and support the clubs swim school in the near future. Lauren is always committed to training and is always one of the first poolside especially at morning training setting a standard for the younger swimmers to follow.
Men’s Team Captain: Ewan Taylor
Ewan and his family have had a long association with the club having both older siblings swim, coach and teach for Staines. Ewan has now followed in their footsteps supporting the clubs growing swim school. Ewan has recently qualified as a level 2 swimming teacher after finishing his GCSE’s in the summer and now takes regular classes at the weekend in between training of course! Ewan is studying in his first year at College and looks to bring a wealth of experience to the role of club captain. Ewan has swum at International competitions claiming the Bronze Medal at the Maccabiah World Games in 2017. Ewan has swum in a British Championship final and qualified for the Commonwealth trials in April 2018. This experience, added to a mature and conscientious approach to his sport, has seen Ewan become much respected amongst his peers. Ewan always supports the club and his team mates of all ages and abilities being especially popular with many of the younger swimmers. Now a regular swimming teacher for the swim school Ewan’s influence will spread throughout the club.
