11 November 2018
Over the weekend of 10/11th November, five of our masters swimmers took on the ultimate distance event in the swiming calander, the 10k swim. Known as the Marathon of swimming, 10k consists of 200 lengths of an Olympic sized pool. Our elite team consisted of Lucy Marchent, Judy Van Selm, George Carter, Alex Punnett, Mark Pickering and Jason Meers. Top of the leader board was Alex at 2hr 49minutes, closely followed by Mark 20 seconds later. Next up was Lucy at 3.03 and George at 3.12, with Judy (3.30) and Jason (3.35) bringing up the rear. Special mention goes to Judy for getting sent to the naughty step for overtaking in the red zone, we know not to mess with her in future...
The memory is a bit raw to consider next year just yet, although many of the team have entered the Jubilee 10k river swim in June next year. Of course thats only one length so much harder to lose count. If any of our younger swimmers fancy joining us please let us know.
