After the freezing conditions of the last couple of days and the ground covered in snow across Rushmoor it was a relief that the second weekend of the Hampshire County Swimming Championships were able to go ahead (following a 2 hour delay to the start) on Saturday 2nd February.
Rushmoor Royals were out in force again with the support crew filling the stands with their green and black for the occasion. Following on from the successes of the first three sessions of the championships the swimmers in Green and Black were not about to let the momentum drop.
By the end of the day five more gold medals were making their way back to North Hampshire with Poppy E top of the pile after winning both the 50m and 200m breaststroke events in the 10/11 age category. Joining her on the top of the 200m Br podium in the age 12 category was Ruby S. Rosie R continued her domination of the freestyle events in the age 13 category but this time at the shorter distance of just 100m compared to the distance events from the first weekend (and then followed it up with a further three silver medals). Finally, Francesca P took home a medal of each colour with her Hampshire County title coming in the age 10/11 100m backstroke event.
Other noteworthy performances included four silver medals for Ella S who continues to seek out that elusive gold and Theo M who clocked up another three silver medals taking his tally to seven individual medals so far.
With the snow clearing the team head back to Waterville on Sunday for the final sessions for the age 10-14 swimmers. Watch out Hampshire!
