The final weekend of the Hampshire ASA County Swimming Championships provided somewhat warmer weather than the previous weekend with racing moving back to the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth although due to problems with the pool setup racing took place on a short course (25m).
Racing was focused on the 15 years and over age groups with the Rushmoor Royals swimmers determined to not let the younger swimmers take all the headlines. First medal winner of the weekend was Charlie H taking the Bronze in the 15yr 400m Individual Medley event. Charlie then kept up the pace for the rest of the weekend with further bronze medals in the 200m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke as well as Silver medals in 100m & 200m Backstroke as well as the 200m Individual Medley. First Gold medal of the weekend went to Matt S who became County Champion in the 17yr & over 200m Butterfly. This was closely followed by Olivia P who took the title in the 16yr 100m Breaststroke with team mate Beth S taking Silver. The pairing also placed the the same in the shorter 50m event however in the 200m event it was Beth that managed to out-touch Olivia to take the Gold. There is strength across the age groups in the Royals squad with Jess C also becoming County Champion in the 17yr and over category at 100m with team mate Ella Ha taking bronze in both this event and the same over 200m. Ella Ho taking Silver in the 16yr 100m, and Bronzes in the 50m and 200m events. Then for the boys it was the battle of the Zack's with Zack W taking a Silver in the 16yr 200m event with team mate Zack K taking bronze medals at all three distances in the same age category.
Jess C then added to her Gold medal tally to become County Champion in the 50m and 100m Butterfly events in addition to the 400m Individual Medley to make it four individual Golds for the weekend with a Silver in the shorter 200m medley the only event to break her Gold run. Sisters Emily and Isobel B were trying not to let the other sibling outdo them and racked up a number of medals between them with older sister Emily winning the Gold in the 17yr and over 50m Freestyle as well as gaining a Bronze in the 50m Butterfly. Isobel was not going to be out swum taking three Silver medals in the 50m BackStroke and 50m/100m Freestyle events with team mate Mia S taking the bronze in the 50m/100m Freestyle events as well as another in the 100m Butterfly. Mia took her own opportunity for County Champion status in the 50m Butterfly taking the total individual wins for the Rushmoor girls to nine for the weekend! Completing the medals for the female Royals were Sam W taking Bronzes in the 50 & 100m 17yr and over Freestyle events and Natasha H taking a Bronze in the 200m Butterfly for 16yr swimmers. The remainder of the boys were not planning to go home with empty pockets either, Andrew H taking a Silver medal in the 17yr and over 200m Freestyle and then a Bronze in the 400m event with Aidan G taking the Silver in the longer distance event.
The last events of each day were relay events where the Rushmoor girls took the opportunity to take more wins with top billing going to the 400m Open Freestyle squad of Jess, Mia, Sam and Emily taking the winners trophy. There were further Silver medals in the 16yr and under 200m Medley Relay for Isobel, Ella Ho, Mia and Lauren K and for Emily, Ella Ho, Jess and Sam in the Open 400m Freestyle Relay. Finishing off the weekend saw a final Bronze medal for Isobel, Lauren, Natasha and Mia in the 16yr and under 200m Freestyle Relay. This took the tally for the final weekend to 11 Gold Medals, 16 Silvers and 19 Bronzes!
Quite an incredible result all round for the club bringing the total medal count for the Rushmoor Royals swimmers over the course of the three weekends to 37 Gold Medals (and County Champions), 51 Silver Medals and 55 Bronzes. These medals were taken home by a total of 39 different swimmers showing an amazing depth of talent within the club.
