With the aim of being 1% either side of personal bests, the meet was a success for most, demonstrated by an impressive 53 Long Course personal best times. The squad’s fitness level shone through, with challenges being met with pacing and skills.
Athletes can go away from the meet pleased but must address the competition strategies that lead to consistent performances through a whole weekend/compeition, with thought going into race preparation, nutrition and perhaps the biggest areas required for improvement is the recovery process after races and demonstrating winning mentality in the last 20m of an event. Coaches will have a chance to work on the importance of these elements over the Easter Camp in 2 weeks’ time.
This Easter Camp will act as final preparation for Jasmine M, Jacob P, Oli F and Oli W who head to Glasgow to compete in the British Champs. For the rest of the squad the Portsmouth Easter Meet will act as an opportunity to further work on competition strategy, before they taper in to the Regional Championships.
A big well done to the swimmers and parents and a huge thank you to coaches Jan, Becky and Sam that supported the squad well during the meet.
