Shark Juniors Smash it at British Champs

The pinnacle of the domestic season, the British Swimming Championships kicked off in Glasgow on Tuesday 16th April 2019. Leicester Sharks had two athletes attending, Luca De Zilva and Michaella Glenister, both racing on the day one.

Michaella Glenister grabbed the headlines on day one as she qualified for the senior final in the 400m Individual Medley alongside Commonwealth Champion and Medallists Aimee Willmott and Hannah Miley. After improving on her best time in the heat, she demolished in going into the final, achieving a World and European Junior consideration time in the process, touching in 7th place in a time of 4.49.13. Michaella also finished inside the top 8 places in the 400m Freestyle, 800m Freestyle and 1500m Freestyle with some excellent races! Michaella also qualified for the Transition Final in the 200m Individual Medley, taking a new best time of 2.18.39 and finishing in 4th place.

Luca De Zilva, in his first British Championships experience, swam a fantastic 50m Backstroke as the 16yr old finishes in a time of 28.40 with some world class senior athletes in the field around him.

It was so pleasing for the club and the coaching staff to have one of our Development athletes in attendance and supporting Michaella as she raced the final in the 400m Individual Medley, and to see two 16 year olds already inspiring the next generation of athletes is a fantastic example of this amazing swimming club.
