WSSC A'MAY'zing Meet: REPORT

This past weekend saw 370 swimmers competing in the annual West Suffolk Swimming Club (WSSC) A'MAY'zing meet at Abbeycroft Leisure in Bury St Edmunds. These swimmers were competing for 8 different clubs from around the Region, with teams from Bottisham, Cambridge, Ely, Norwich, Huntingdon, Newmarket, Stowmarket and the home club.

The competition allows for developing swimmers who haven’t yet competed, to gain times for new events and for those that have already competed, an opportunity to improve on their best times – which a high percentage of swimmers were able to do.

One hundred and six WSSC swimmers were among those competing for times and medals, across 28 different events over the course of the weekend. Gold medals came from the following swimmers representing the home club: Olivia Whyte (13yrs 200m Free); Caitlin McKay (15+ 200m Free); Ben Cottrill (11yrs 50m Backstroke, 200m Butterfly, 100m Backstroke, 100m Free, 200m Free & 100m Butterfly); Ben Wortley (15+ 50m Backstroke & 50m Butterfly); Beatrice Sepanski (11yrs 50m Backstroke); Grace Bullingham (12yrs 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke & 100m Free); Libby Seys (13yrs 50m Backstroke); Freya Rootes (15+ 50m Backstroke & 100 IM); Samuel Blackwell (10yrs 100m Breaststroke, 50m Breaststroke, 200m Free & 50m Free);  Casper Munro-Smith (15+ 100m Breaststroke, 200m IM, 100m Backstroke & 200m Backstroke); Megan Low (10yrs 100m Breaststroke); Kiera Broad (11yrs 100m Breaststroke); Alice Clark (13yrs 100m Breaststroke, 200m IM, 50m Breaststroke & 100 IM); Phoebe Hastings (15+ 100m Breaststroke & 50m Butterfly); Thomas Williams (10yrs 200m Butterfly); Josh Barnes (13yrs 200m Butterfly, 100m Butterfly & 50m Free); Phoebe Harpur-Davies (11yrs 200m Butterfly); Evie Pyle (14yrs 200m Butterfly, 200m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Free & 100 IM); James O’Connor (13yrs 200m IM); Sophia Roughsedge (13yrs 100m Backstroke & 200m Backstroke); Samuel Chamberlain (9yrs 50m Butterfly); Megan Barker (12yrs 50m Butterfly); Harry Smart (15+ 50m Breaststroke & 100m Free); Imogen Clark (15+ 50m Breaststroke, 100m Butterfly & 50m Free); Elizabeth Wright (11yrs 100m Butterfly); Imogen Gotch (13yrs 200m Breaststroke & 50m Free); Tom Phillips (10yrs 200m Breaststroke); Will Hicks (15+ 200m Breaststroke & 50m Free); Archie Chamberlain (12yrs 50m Free); Ben Phillips (13yrs 100m IM) and Jake Clarke (15+ 100m IM).

The event wouldn’t be possible without the hard work from the coaches, team managers and the army of volunteers on the day. These include, but aren't limited to the officials, marshalls, AOE and results team, FinS helpers (raffle, refreshments, BBQ), entry desk, shop, medals table and the team up in Studio One that kept everyone fed throughout the weekend. THANK YOU! A special thank you also to Tina Hudson and Andrea O’Connor (WSSC Meet Promoters) for organising the competition.
