Bromley’s 15+ year athletes dominated at the London Regional Youth Championships this year. The group of 23 swimmers brought home a total of 56 medals over the three-day competition including 15 Gold, 23 Silver and 18 Bronze, and were crowned top club in London from their fantastic results.
Fresh from their recent success at British Championships, Imogen Meers, Tamryn Van Selm, Evie Davis and Eliza Powell all continued to show their quality. Eliza (15) came home with three Gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke as well as Silvers in the 200m and 400m IM. Eliza also broke two Junior London Records in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke. Tamryn (15) dominated the freestyle events taking Gold in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m Freestyle with teammate Evie (15) hot on her heels with a Silver in the 50m, 100m and 200m and Bronze in the 400m Freestyle. Both girls also medaled in the backstroke events. All-round sprinter Imogen Meers (17) managed to medal in every stroke with a Gold in the 50m and 100m Backstroke and Silver in the 50m Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly as well as the 200m IM.
And the medals didn’t stop there! 16 year old Annabel Smith took to the podium with a Gold in the 50m and 100m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke and a Silver in the 100m Backstroke, while fellow 16 year old Emma Van Selm came away with four Bronze medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly. Alicia Corver (15) took Silver in the 200m Butterfly as well as Bronze in the 400m IM and 100m Butterfly. New team member Abi Poulton (16) added her name to the medal tally with two Bronzes in the 100m Butterfly and 200m Butterfly.
The girls were on top form with four relay teams also making it to the podium, three of which have been confirmed as having qualified for the National Championships in Glasgow this Summer.
For the boys Matt Rogers (19) led the charge taking Gold in the 400m IM and 200m Breaststroke and Silver in the 100m Breaststroke. Pravin Mahendrakumar (16) also medalled in the breaststroke events taking home 3 Silver medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m. Tom Woolley (16) took home a Silver in the 50m Freestyle and two Bronzes in the 50m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle. Ed Sellar (15) found his stride in the freestyle with a Bronze medal in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m events. Joe Dobb (19) rounded off our medal collection with a Silver in the 800m and Bronze in the 200m Freestyle.
Our age-groupers put in a good show across their two weekends at Regionals. Alex Corver (13) was our highest medal scorer with a Silver in the 200 IM, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly and a Bronze in the 50 and 100 breaststroke. Jamie Cleaver (14) took to the podium four times with a Silver in the 200 fly, and Bronze in the 800 free, 100 fly, and 400 free. Lilou Saeijs (14) won Silver in the 50 Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle while teammate Lily Meers (14) won Bronze in the 200 Butterfly. 12 year-olds Emily Serafini and Lucas Bryl both took Silver in the 50m Butterfly and 50m Breaststroke respectively.
Well done also to our finalists across the championships Felix Haslam, Rae Straupenieks, Hannah O’Flynn, Louisa Knight, Bea Pickering, Fran Middleton, Harry Chaudhury, Alex Middleton, Sam Lander, Evie Berenger-Fleming, Lenka Carter, Emily Gunn, Seb Pickering.
We also had lots of personal best times and a number of swimmers competing at this level for the first time. Well done to everyone for their fantastic achievements.
