British Triathlon Super Series 3

Race report Blenheim Triathlon

The 3 rd race in the British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series was held in the picturesque setting of Blenheim Palace with a lake swim, bike and run around the internal palace roads.

First off were the Youth boys who were racing with 1 ST Year Junior men (a year older). Ryan came out of the lake first, ran 400m uphill and got out first on the bike, closely followed by Liam. A small pack of 6 broke clear and maintained a lead throughout the bike leg. Liam, unfortunately, suffered with breathing difficulties and was forced to drop back into the 2 ndbike pack. Ryan had a strong run and finished with 5 Junior boys ahead of him but was first 15/16 year Youth, leaving him after 3 of 7 races ranked first in the UK in Youth boys.

Liam finished strongly in 21 st and has demonstrated real power on the bike which will undoubtedly serve him well in forthcoming races.

In the Youth Girls race, Alex who also had a great swim coming out of the water first, found the going tough on the bike, again suffering a similar chesty cough to Liam. Alex, although disappointed with her race, will bounce back at Leeds next week where the next GB Series race will be held as part of the ITU World Triathlon Elite series featuring the Brownlees.

Moving on to the Elite men’s race Henry again rubbing shoulders with under 24 and senior men raced double the distance of the Juniors but finished a creditable 13 th place, well done Henry on a great performance in very warm conditions.
