Message from Dimitri, Chairman

Exciting season ahead!

I thought that last year was one of the best years in my tenure as chairman of our prestigious club, due to the fact that we achieved an amazing milestone: 125 years of operation, one of the oldest clubs in England! Well, seems that I was wrong as this year is expected to be even more exciting! Our new head coach, Sean Bailey, has launched a brand new programme while, at the same time, we are getting ready for a series of equally enthralling activities: Arena League; Academy trials; Masters competitions; Junior and Senior open meets are just some of the great things we will see in October. Also, having heard your suggestions in the AGM last June for more frequent communication and information, we have recently updated our website with all sorts of information available to you when you login; and increased our Head Coach comms, with Sean reaching out to all of you with details of our new programme and targets for the year. More to come, watch this space!

The committee and I wish you all a healthy and fun swimming year ahead and as always, please do not hesitate to talk to us when you see us poolside, even to say hello!

If you have any questions or comments, you can contact me or any member of the committee or by email. Our contact details can be found on the FSC website and via this link Committee members.

Message from Sean, Head Coach

HEAD COACH WELCOMES EVERYONE BACK, NEW SEASON, NEW PROGRAMME, EXCITING FUTURE!

It has been great to see everyone jumping straight back into training. Attendance has been really positive in the evenings. As we move into October numbers are starting to settle down.

The coaching team and I are ironing out the wrinkles reviewing swimmer allocations for any members that are not quite settled. These alterations will take place over the coming weeks. I am currently looking at staff recruitment to make sure we continue to deliver to the highest standards. This is my immediate priority and I look forward to announcing more on this once the recruitment process is complete. Please bear with us over the coming weeks as we go through a period of transition as new coaches come on board.

We have the Arena League and Hart Open Meet on the horizon so all swimmers must really focus on optimising technical knowledge they are given in training and boosting attendance and commitment to training hard during this early-season cycle.

Once I have a full coaching team, my focus will move to improving communication across the memberships and keeping you all informed of my vision for FSC. Fundamentals, like squad guidelines, will be finalised shortly.

In other news, I have been selected by Swim England to become a coach tutor. This has positive implications for the club as I will be able to run level 1/2 coach courses to mentor swimmers to become fully qualified coaches. Our volunteer programme is far superior to most programmes and it will be an honour for me to give any swimmer the opportunity to get involved in coaching. I know for me as a swimmer the one thing I wanted to do from the age of 16 was give something back to my local club that had given me so much!

I would like to finish by saying a massive thank you to everyone for being so welcoming to me since picking up the Head Coach mantle. I couldn’t do it without the support of the coaching team, committee members and all the volunteers. I consider myself an integral part of the FSC family and its all due to the kind nature of every member at Farnham for this I would like to thank you all.

Welfare

Gentle reminder to all parents.

FSC endeavours to always ensure coaching sessions run as planned. Unfortunately however, things can go wrong such as a coach not being present or the pool being out of action. In these circumstances the club does all it can to address the issues and communicate to swimmers/parents in good time.

However, it is also the responsibility of every parent to assure themselves of the presence of the coach and that the session is going ahead as planned, prior to leaving their child at the pool unattended. If parents plan to drop their child without these checks, they should arrange with a fellow parent to alert them, or ensure their child has a means to communicate with them such as a mobile phone. The coaches’ responsibility for your child starts and finishes at the poolside, so please ensure the session is running as planned before you leave your child.

Also, please can all parents/guardians check their Team Unify account and ensure personal details are up to date and include emergency contact numbers and medical information. If your child has a medical condition, this information needs to be on Team Unify and parents need to inform coaches of any relevant information, in case of a medical emergency.

Social Events

After another fantastic year of swimming, we are thrilled to announce that tickets for our Club’s Annual Awards Night are now on sale!  This year the event is being combined with a leaving party for Martin Edwards who left the club in August.

The event will take place on Saturday 16th November 2019 at Weydon School from 5:30pm until 9pm and is open to all squads, with Academy (formerly Minnows) awards being given out first (so you can leave early if needed for bedtime).

Please make sure you purchase your tickets ASAP as numbers are limited and we tend to have strong attendance.  You can pay by bank transfer with reference 'Last name + Awards19’ , Account details: Sort Code: 20-31-06, Account: 63534898.  Tickets cost £3/ticket or £10/family.

If you would like to contribute to Martin’s retirement gift please make a separate transfer to the same account, with the reference ‘Last name + Gift'

We are looking forward to seeing you for a night full of awards, fun and games, and a chance to say farewell to Martin.

Masters

Save the Date: 22 December is the Masters vs Kids gala (Our chance for revenge for losing last year!). Let Nick know if you are interested in joining team Masters; parents are welcome to swim as well.

Any Masters interested in a weekend to Lanzarote for a training camp at Club La Santa, March 2020 should speak to Comrade Paul. It’s early days but he is keen to get a group together for some warm weather training/socialising in the sun.

If anyone fancies racing at an international event, then consider 1 to 6 June 2020 at the European Masters in Budapest (I have flights and hotel booked already!). Details of the schedule and entry are not out yet but I will pass them on as soon as they are available (open air 50m and fantastic indoor arena following the Elite swimmers).

We have a team of 5 attending Nationals in Sheffield in October, details of future Gala’s and socials will be on the web page, now with the new page Masters corner – let me know what you want to see on there…

Details on the Masters Christmas Social to follow soon.
