So, Bognor was the location for Round 2 of the National Arena League and it was a strong team that headed coastwards on Saturday 9th November – many of the swimmers in a minibus kindly organised by Zoe G.
And Alton was in phenomenal form from the start! After the first few events the team was second only to Guildford and the swimmers maintained their momentum throughout. There were individual wins for James P (x2), Henry, Mia, Arthur, Max (x2) and Alex S and the boys 15/u freestyle team of Henry, Lucas, Lewis J and Alex S also won their event. True to form, the boys 11/u relay team (Arthur, Charlie, James P, Matthew) also proved their dominance in both their relays once again.
Despite many swimmers having achieved new times at recent meets, there were a further 14 personal bests on the night. Including first legs of relays, Arthur (x2), George, Henry, Emily, James P, Sophie, Rory S, Daniel (x2), Katie, Max, Matthew and Mia all swam new PBs, with Emily achieving her first county time! In addition, Lucy Sampson and Lucy Steiner bettered their county entry times for their respective events. Well done all!
A special mention also needs to go to Noah and Tori, both of whom swam three individual events, with Tori having an exhausting 7 swims on the night, including relays.
As is often the case with our small club, a number of swimmers were asked to swim for an older age group, so particular thanks go to Lucy E, Emily, Tori, Lucy Steiner, Henry, Alex S, Katie, Hannah S and Rosie – the last of whom swam in the Open Freestyle relay aged only 12! Indeed, it seems the added responsibility inspired Rosie to achieve her first ever sub-30s time for a 50m freestyle relay split, along with Hannah S and Katie who also achieved this feat for the first time on Saturday night. This is a much sought after target for many swimmers!
Thanks to Luke and Alex for their coaching on the night and all the other volunteers from the club who officiated and team managed with style!
