Cotswold League 2020 Round One
Cheddar Kingfishers travelled to Bath where they faced tough competition from Bath, Radstock and Clevedon in the first of the 2020 Cotswold League Competition. The home team, Bath, won the closely fought competition, Clevedon second and Cheddar a close third, just 7 points behind second place, despite having 9 first place wins.
 
Grace Hurst won the girls 13 years and under 50m Breast, with Charlie Halford coming second in the same race for the boys and both Olivia Iles and Henry Reid went on to win their 50m 15 years and under Backstroke for the girls and boys races respectively. The girls 13 years and under Freestyle Team, Jemima Seagrove, G Hurst, Lucy Todd and O Iles swam a fantastic race and came a close second behind winners Bath. Holly Cockram also won the 50m Breast for the 15 years and under girls, and Seagrove came first in the 13 years and under 50m Freestyle race.
 
Halfway through the evening, the boys kept up with the girls successes, winning the 15 years and under Medley Team race with Reid, Jack Brimm, Ed Harman and Isaac Nicholls all swimming their best strokes. Zara Bird, her first Cotswold outing swam brilliantly in the girls 11 years and under 25m Backstroke race, coming second. Winning his next race, Nicholls won the boys 15 years and under 50m Freestyle race, with Patrick Forrester also winning the boys Open 100m Breast, and Naomi Pollard coming a very close second in the Open Girls 100m Breast. More strong swimming followed from Hardman who swam a massive PB in the boys 15 years and under Butterfly race, and Harry Read winning the boys Open 100m Freestyle race. Finishing up the evening of great swimming, the boys 15 years and under team of Hardman, Brimm, Reid and Nicholls won the Freestyle Team race. The fast and furious last race of the Canon, swam by Ewan McClumpha, Zoe Alvey, Finley Halford, O Iles, Reid, Megan McClumpha, Simon Toogood and Pollard swam to an exciting second place.
 
This was a first Cotswolds event for some of the Kingfisher swimmers, all of whom performed brilliantly and stepped up to the task in hand. For the girls 11 years and under, Bird, Alvey, sisters Issy Iles and Cassy Iles, and for the boys, Dylan Wines and brothers Oli and Louis Hurst. All the team gave their best efforts and Head Coach Jeff Hill was immensely proud.
