Young Kingfishers Forth
Twenty-six of the younger Cheddar Kingfishers swimming team took part in the second of the Four Seasons competition hosted by Clevedon at Hutton Moor on Saturday 18th January.  The evening was kicked off with Lois Brimm and Bertie Thomas swimming the 12 years and under 100m IM race for the girls and boys, both swimming strong races and coming a close 3rd.  Next, new-comer to Kingfishers and the Four Seasons Gala, Daniel Cummings swam his first race for the 9 years and under boys, the 25m Butterfly race, and then continuing the 9 years and under success, the girls team of Amelia Rowe, Libby Halford, Faye Bird and Tilly Sedgwick had a great evening, winning both the Medley Relay and the Freestyle Relay races.  It was also Rowe’s first swimming gala, doing brilliantly in her individual race, winning the girls 9 years and under 25m Backstroke for the team.  L Halford also won her individual race of the 9/u 25m Breaststroke race, with her brother Charlie winning the boys 12/u 50m Breaststroke race.

10 Year old Grace Hatherall had a storming win in the girls 25m Butterfly, with Oliver Hurst coming 4th for the boys team, and in the girls 11 years and under, Anna Banks won the 50m Breaststroke for Cheddar, and Sam Hutchinson coming 4th.  More exciting races followed, with Brimm coming 2nd in the girls 12 years and under 50m Butterfly, and Thomas coming 3rd for the boys.  George Young had a quick race in the boys 11 years and under 50m Freestyle, finishing 2nd.

The finale was the fast and furious Canon Relay, a boy and girl from each age category swimming a length to finish the competition.  An exciting and very loud end to the evening with T Sedgwick, Cummings, Hatherall, Josh Hutchinson, Cassy Iles, S Hutchinson, Brimm and Thomas all swimming a length of the pool as fast as they could to end the evenings swimming.

Cheddar Kingfishers finished 4th out of the 6 teams, just 3 points away from coming 3rd.  A very close result for Cheddar.  The children all had a lovely evening of racing and went home pleased with their efforts.
