Kent Championships 2020 - weekend 2&3

 Weekends two and three of the 2020 Kent County Championships brought Bromley’s medal total up to an amazing 39 Gold, 41 Silver and 35 Bronze medals. We finished in 2ndplace overall in the Medals Table, and 1stplace in the Top Club Points Table with a whopping 1258 points accrued from our stars over the three weekends. We are so proud of each and every one of our swimmers who gave their all this year. 

 

Our 16/u girls continued to be our strongest age group with the ladies taking the top spot in nearly every event across the two weekends. Tamryn van Selm won Gold in 100m back, 200m Back, 100m Free, 200m Free, 400m Free, while Evie Davis was crowned champion in 50m Free, 50m Fly, 50m Back and 200m IM. Alicia Corver took Silver in the 400m IM and 50m Butterfly, as well as medaling in the 100 Back, 200m Back and 400m Free, and Eliza Powell took Silver in the 50m Breaststroke and Bronze in the 400m IM with medals in the 100m Free, 200m Free and 200m IM. Also making finals in this age-group were Rae Straupenieks (50m, 100m, 200m, 400m Free) , Ella Follis (50m Free) and Amelia Jones (50m Breaststroke).  

 

Our 17/o girls were also strong, with Imogen Meers making her mark in her last county championships before heading to the USA in the summer for university by taking Gold in the 100m Back, 100m Free, 200m Back, 200m IM, 50m Back, 50m Fly and 50m Breaststroke. Annabel Smith was hot on her heels with a Gold in the 50m Free, Silver in the 50m Fly, 50m Back, 200m Back, 200m Free and 100m Back. Emma van Selm took Silver in the 50m and 100m Free and Bronze in the 200m Free and 50m Fly. Also medaling in this age group were Hannah O’Flynn (400m Free, 50 Back, 50 Fly, 50 Free) and Maddie Follis (50 Free, 50 Fly, 100m Free). 

 

For the Men, Joe Dobb continued his medal streak in the 17/o taking Gold in the 50m Free, 100m Free and 200m IM, Silver in the 400m Free, and Bronze in the 200m Free. Also in the 17/o age group, Pravin Mahendrakumar took Silver in the 50m Breaststroke as well as medaling in the 200m IM, 200m Free, 100m Free, 50m Free and 50m Fly. 

 

14/u’s Sam Lander and Alex Corver both fought to the top spot with Alex taking Gold in the 200 IM, 400m IM and 50m Breaststroke and Sam finally getting his crown in the 200m Freestyle. Alex also got a Bronze in the 50 Fly and medaled in both the 100m and 200m Backstroke, while Sam got Silver in the 400m Free, Bronze in the 50m Free and medaled in the 100m and 200m Back and the 200m IM. 

 

13 year old Lucas Bryl’s impressive performances in the 100m and 50m Backstroke secured him the top spot. He also medaled in the 200m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 50m Butterfly. And our final Gold came from 14-year-old Kasia Titterton in the 100m Freestyle. Kasia also secured Silver in the 100m Back, 50m Free 200m Free, 400m Free and Bronze in the 50m Back. Teammate Emily Gunn also got to the podium with a Bronze position in the 50m Breaststroke. 

 

12 year old Harry Chaudhury continued to show his quality with a Silver in the 200m Back and Bronze in the 400m Free, 200m Free and 100m Back as well as medaling in the 100m Free, 200m IM, 50m Back, 50m Fly and 50m Free. 

 

15 year old Jamie Cleaver just missed out on Gold but collected a very respectable Silver in the 50m Fly and Bronze in the 400m Free, 100m Free, 200m Free as well as medaling in 50m Back and 200m IM.  Sebastian Pickering, also in this age group, took to the podium with a Bronze in the 50m Breaststroke. 

 

Fellow 15 years olds Lily Meers, Lenka Carter and Lilou Saeijs all finished with podium positions. Lily took Silver in the 50m Fly, Bronze in the 50m Free, and a finalist position in the 200m and 400m IM. Lenka also finished top 8 in the 400m IM, 200 IM, 100m and 200m Free, then earned herself a shiny Silver in the 400m Free. Lilou overcame the odds to take Bronze in the 50m Breaststroke and 200m Freestyle as well as medaling in the 100m Free, 50m Free and 50m Fly. 

 

And last but not least Bea Pickering (13) and Mia Hughes (11) worked their way to a Silver and Bronze medal respectively, Bea in the 50m and Mia in the 100m Back. Bea also medaled in the 100m Back, 50m, 100m, 200m Free and 400m Free, while Mia medaled in the 200m Back, 200m IM and 50m Fly. 

 

Also a huge well done to all of our other swimmers who made finals and medaled in their events, many of them taking the agonising 4thplace finish repeatedly and just missing out on the podium: Emily Serafini (400m IM, 100m Back, 200m Back, 200m Free, 200m IM, 400m Free, 50m Back and 50m Fly),  Martha Warner (50m, 100m, 200m, 400m Free, 200m Back), Caleb Thompson (100m Back, 100m Free, 200m Back), Nevan Chou (100m Back, 50m Back), Evie Berenger-Fleming (50m Back, 50m Fly), Luke Cleaver (400m IM), Ollie Warner (400m IM), Tim Kirdar (100m Free), Alex Middleton (400m Free), Saskia Sprague (50m Back), Albert Brooks (50m Fly), Hannah Lewis (50m Breaststroke), Amelia Jones (50m Breaststroke). A special mention to both Charlotte Chaudhury and Josie Lawn for making finals and medaling in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke respectively despite competing a year out of age. 

 

Kent is one of the toughest counties in the country- finishing 3rdat this year’s inter-counties competition, so qualifying to this standard is an achievement in itself. Congratulations to all of our swimmers who worked so hard to get here, represented the team and swam PBs including those mentioned above as well as: Sophia Beament, Raffy Vignoli, Isabel Orchard, Megan Slattery, Fran Middleton, Charlie Williams, Oscar Pickering, James Belton, Sonny Landeman, Michael Banks, Alessio Tutt, Ethan Bird, Oli Haycocks, Ed Lecuyer, Jared Thompson, Christian Di Pace, Ela Kirdar, Amelia Middleton, Alex Crawford, Oscar Pickering, Roberto Dell’Accio, Seb Williams, Maria Salamanca, Tharushi Nilagarathna, Delyth Trigger, Lottie Cain, Lisa Howard, Jess Van Selm, Shannon Menteath, Abigail Griffin and Koko Chambers.
